3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: JUL 29, 2009 OK, this is my second go-round with this brew. This time from a 750ml bottle from March 2009. My original rating, which is found below, was from a handbottle and was clearly not as good. The pour yields a dark and hazy brownish-amber body with a billowing, lasting head of beige colored foam. Small, ultra-sticky clumps of lacing mark the glass. The aroma shows a strong brettanomyces overtone. Dry, wild, and barnyard-esque, the funky yeast works nicely over a backdrop of toasted bread, edible flowers, fresh cut grass, and citrus rind. The flavor is boldly bretty, very peppery, with loads of citrus zest and a dried up, candy malt sweetness. Dry as the Sahara, the palate strips the mouth of moisture, while the intensely fizzy carbonation distributes the hop-forward flavors throughout. This is very good stuff if youíre a brett fiend. It reminds me of a more intensely hopped Ommegeddon.
Original rating 7/3/7/3/15 = 3.5 Handbottle, courtesy mgumby10. Pours a lightly hazy, glowing orange color. A small off-white head leaves minimal, sudsy lacing behind. The aroma showed the requisite citrus hops, predominantly orange and lemon, with notes of toffee, toasted bread, and a faint, dry, yeasty funk. Flavors were considerably more dry than Hop Devil, with orange and lemon again showing well and dominating the malts. A touch of dry grassyness comes through as well. The yeast really seems to have dried things out here, almost to the point of being parching, but thereís not much funkiness going on, like I was hoping for. Medium bodied, lightly carbonated, and bone dry. This was a decent little experiment, but it ultimately didnít deliver for me.

1.2 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 3/20
2009 vintage. Not good. Something has went seriously wrong here. No sourness at all. Wet cardboard, dirty hay, barnyard grossness. The only real flavors i get is old earthy hops and dirty wheat. Meh.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle shared with friends. If this was a mistake then it was a brilliant mistake. Good sour tartness happening here. Slightly fruity and easily drinkable, even for a new sour head.

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
750ml bottle. Dated April 22, 2009. Cloudy dark amber/orange with lots of head that takes a while to die down. Nose of burnt caramel, stale hops, a hint of wood, licorice, mint, faint acetic notes. Disjointed on the palate. Malty punch up front with a bit of sourness. Seriously lacking complexity. Some vegetal hop character with an astringent finish. Pass.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Draft at Proof. Slightly hazy, golden pour with a fluffy white head. Aroma of funky yeast, lemons, citrus hops, and hints of sweetness. Flavor of funk, yeast spice and hoppiness. Dry tart ending.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
On tap at Proof. Pours a clear golden yellow with thin white head and light lacing. Aroma of funky Belgian yeast and fresh citrusy hops. Taste follows, a hint of peppery spice. Solid, one of the best things Iíve had from victory.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
A decent ale but really over priced. Similar to a tripel. Wouldn't get it again.

2.4 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 9/20
2008 bottle. Tulip pour of hazed amber yellow with two full finger head. Nose is malty, barely sour, quite spicy... Flavor is bleak, not sour... More like a lightly sour hefeweizen... Not pleasant. Bananas, clove, coriander... Not for me at all, not after I heard how sour it was

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle with Chris and Jay. Pours a cloudy amber with thick off-white head. Bottle was a couple years old so most of the hop aroma has faded but the funk has stepped up. Good barnyard funk. Time did this beer well. Really solid.
