3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
12 oz bottle into a pint glass.
A: Pours a hazy straw color with lots of suspended yeast floaties in the body. The head is a three finger white shade. Its texture is very soapy, and its retention is decent. Splotchy patches of lacing are left behind. As a *witbier*, it’s really good looking.
S: There’s a nice spice note, evoking black pepper, coriander, and sage. Some wheat hides behind this nicely, coming out more strongly as it warms up. The aroma is inviting if not mindblowing.
T: In general, the predominant flavor is ’spicy’. Note of coriander and black pepper give way to a finish of subtle orange peel. Wheat and candied sugar linger as secondary notes throughout. Really, it’s just a slightly sweeter than normal witbier, but the execution is damn solid. The sweetness never gets overwhelming.
M: I love how crisp this one is. There’s just enough sweetness to give it a thirst quenching quality, and the heartiness betrays its roots as both a winter ale and a high ABV wit. Carbonation is somewhat low for the style, and that helps its former qualities become amplified slightly.
O: This is not a dunkel, but a wit. And a good one. It’s one of those rare brews that would work in both winter and summer equally well. While it’s not what I expected, it still managed to be a very satisfying beer - one that I could drink multiple servings of. Don’t mind if I do...

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours slightly hazy amber with a thick and fluffy eggshell head. Wheaty aroma has yeasty, fruity, and subtle spicy tones, making the mouth go Pavlov. Flavor delights with wheat, banana, hoppy, grassy, and shy woody and cloves notes. Cheers indeed! Texture is fairly viscous, if not very fizzy. Let this give you some cheer any time of year.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Spicy hops are up front but not too prominent, though repeated sips increase the bite and can leave bitter aftertaste. A warm lightness pervades, with maybe just a hint of citrus. Frothy head. Overall a good beer right out of the bottle.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
For some reason, I was holding out hope that this would be more along the lines of a dunkelweizen - this is much more like a wit - thankfully, once I got past the expectations, I started to enjoy it - actually looks fantastic - hazy gold - lively pour - huge, rocky, lasting head - nose is aromatic, herbal, spicy/peppery, with notes of melon and orange peel - creamy texture - fairly frothy in the mouth - medium sweet pear and orange rind - light tanginess through the middle - becoming more dry , peppery, and spicy through the finish, with a little bit clove and a faint hint and other earthy phenolics - like a wit and Belgian ale hybrid - I actually kind of dig it, although it is a bit sweet.
