12 oz bottle into a pint glass. A: Pours a hazy straw color with lots of suspended yeast floaties in the body. The head is a three finger white shade. Its texture is very soapy, and its retention is decent. Splotchy patches of lacing are left behind. As a *witbier*, it’s really good looking. S: There’s a nice spice note, evoking black pepper, coriander, and sage. Some wheat hides behind this nicely, coming out more strongly as it warms up. The aroma is inviting if not mindblowing. T: In general, the predominant flavor is ’spicy’. Note of coriander and black pepper give way to a finish of subtle orange peel. Wheat and candied sugar linger as secondary notes throughout. Really, it’s just a slightly sweeter than normal witbier, but the execution is damn solid. The sweetness never gets overwhelming. M: I love how crisp this one is. There’s just enough sweetness to give it a thirst quenching quality, and the heartiness betrays its roots as both a winter ale and a high ABV wit. Carbonation is somewhat low for the style, and that helps its former qualities become amplified slightly. O: This is not a dunkel, but a wit. And a good one. It’s one of those rare brews that would work in both winter and summer equally well. While it’s not what I expected, it still managed to be a very satisfying beer - one that I could drink multiple servings of. Don’t mind if I do...

Pours a light hazy yellow with a one finger white head with pretty nice lacing. Aroma is of banana, cloves, citrus, pepper, light grassy hops, and wheat bread. Taste is similar to the the aroma with a lot of nice banana, wheat bread, citrus, spicy hops, cloves, and black pepper. Has a medium body with a creamy mouthfeel and a semi dry, slightly bitter, medium-long finish. Overall, a tasty wheat ale that seems like it would be nice on both a cold winters day and a warm summer night.

Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a cloudy vibrant yellow-gold color with a large creamy yellow-white head that lingered and left good lacing. The aroma was tangy bread, sweettart candies, chalk and citrus. The flavor was tart and tangy Sweettart candies, citrus, chalk, bread and almost a vague herbal presence. Medium length finish. Medium body. Ok.

Transfer from BA review on 11-4-13- Poured from bottle into a pint glass Appearance – The beer pours a hazy deep straw-golden color with tons of little carbonation bubbles streaming through the brew. Upon pouring there is a nice two finger thick and foamy white head that slowly fades over time to leave a nice level of foamy lace on the sides of the glass. Smell – The aroma is very Belgian like, with a big fruity smell, largest of banana but containing some lighter fruit smells of apricot and peach. Other traditional Belgian smells of yeast and wheat are there as well. Spice aromas of clove and coriander are quite strong but are also joined by some lighter aromas of peppercorn and a bit of grass. Overall a nice fruity, spiced and yeasty smell. Taste – The taste begins with a wheaty and fruity flavor with lots of banana and yeast. Some spice is present upfront with a decent level of clove and coriander. The yeast gets more potent with the wheat fading a bit as the taste moves on. Like the yeast, the spice gets more potent as well, with the new arrival of some pepper. The fruit tastes increase as well as the flavor advances with the banana being joined by a little bit of a citrus and apricot. Toward the end some grassy and hay-like flavors come to the tongue producing a pleasant and balanced, witbier flavor with a lighter citrus flavor to linger on the tongue. Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the medium to slightly thinner side with a carbonation level that is on the higher side. Both are fantastic for the yeast and spice as well as the wheaty flavors of the brew making for a very nice easy drinking brew. Overall – A rather tasty brew. While I see it really as a wit and really don’t see how it is a holiday beer (except for maybe the spice of Belgian flavors), it is very easy drinking and certainly one to grab and give a try.
