3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Wouldnt call this a black ipa, reminds me more of an india brown ale. Nontheless, nice malty flavor with balanced hop difference. Hops are nice at the end but dont overpower the nice malt body.

UPDATED: NOV 26, 2013 Had a taste of this on tap from Alexandrias in Findlay. Definitely on the sweet side, maybe not fresh, but solid. Citrus hops.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
12 oz bottle (suspected of being ~ at best by date) served in a snifter.
A - hazy, dark mahogany; a few drops of sediment at the bottom of the bottle were added and allowed to settled in the glass. Tan head of moderate size and retention.
S - earthy; malty; toasted grains; less hoppy than expected or remembered. Rich, attractive and interesting aroma with a nice toffee/chocolate tone.
T: Interesting and moderately strong flavor profile, with a pronounced and complex hop component well balanced by a substantial roasted malt base. A surprising earthy and roasted malt flavor (with some hoppiness) lingers in the mildly bitter aftertaste. High ABV not obvious.
Light-medium carbonation; Full body.

Pours brown with a big hoppy nose. Hops and a light roasty malt flavor dominate the flavor profile. Overall very very good.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Big tan head over amber-red body (thought this was suppose to be a black IPA?) Aroma of grass and lemony hops and some oxidation and chalk. Taste of big bitterness upfront and more bitterness afterwards. Roast and coffee (doesn’t come out in aroma much, but in flavor) palate hoppy and roasty

2.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
The description says this is a "heavyweight battle between Yakima hops and dark roasted malt", battle over, hops crushed malt and not in a good way. Pours a dark brownish, strong hop persents. Taste comes through with strong piney, resiney and bitter. Great label, down hill after that.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
This was my first Black IPA, it’s pretty interesting, Thin head with nice lacing very rich sort of medium hazy brown color. The taste is typical IPA, maybe mellowed slightly with a "roasty" almost coffee-like characteristic.

3.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
12oz bottle. Pours a deep walnut brown color with a very thin tan head. Not much on the aroma. Hints of roasted malt, nuts, and a very faint hoppiness. Wow, taste is a whole other story! Very roasty and bitter. Lots of roasted malt, burn toast, some oak, and piny/earthy hops!

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Poured from a bottle into a chalice. Consumed on a patio. Pours dark rust brown with a generous tan head that leaves nice lacing. Aroma is citrus hops and malt that comes through amplified in the flavour. The dark malts compliment the pleasantly bitter hops beautifully. This is a perfect patio beer for early spring. An easy drinking dark IPA. I love it!
