The tenacious grip of big, juicy hop aroma and character slides smoothly into rich, dark malts. This heavyweight battle between fresh, Yakima Valley hops and dark, roasted malts is resolved harmoniously as the flavors merge to deliver complex satisfaction with a warming edge. Enjoy the ‘twilight’ for the bright and brassy hops!

Bottle. Was looking forward to this since its announcement. Pretty and dark. Robust, balanced aroma, everything from celery to caramel to chocolate. Everything is amplified with this beer - big malt, big bitterness. Nothing really subtle about this beer IMO. Big flavor. Almost tealike in its dry bitterness. Actually kind of smells like a brewery - but its a mustiness I actually find appealing. I love this beer.

Pours transparent brown with a hint of red. Aroma is a combo of citrus and floral hop notes. The flavor has a nice malt punch followed by a slightly bitter hop finish. Good mouthfeel. Solid.

Bottle courtesy of blutt59. Clear reddish pour. Some musty hops on the nose. Some sweet and piney notes as well. Tastes of hops that is rough and pleasant at the same time. Finishes with the standard flavor of hops but a little rougher.

I wished I liked Hoppie Ales more than I do because this appears to be a special ale. Love the color because it is so unlike a normal IPA. Flavors is everything you would expect plus a mid palate maltiness that ends just a bit too quick. Enjoyed none the less

UPDATED: JAN 29, 2011 Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a vibrant ruby chestnut color with a huge orange-beige head that lingered - perfect appearance. The aroma was full of pine, plum, cherry, resin and cocoa. The flavor was sweet, bitter and had noted elements of plum, apple butter, grapefruit, resin, cherry, caramel and a touch of cocoa. The finish was long with fruit, caramel and pine. Thick and full bodied. Incredible.

UPDATED: JAN 10, 2010 On tap at Lucky Dog Saloon, Lafayette Hill, PA. Pours dark amber/brown/red with a small amount (1inch tops) of thick head which dissipates in a few minutes. Aroma is mild and is of icky sticky citrusy-pine hops. Taste is of a wide variety of hops. No one hop flavor (e.g. pine, grapefruit, orange, lemon or other fruit) stands out, yet they’re all present. It’s a fairly thick beer with a lot of carbonation. Originally, I thought this would be classified as an IIPA, but when I tasted it, it seemed to fit more in the category of a strong ale, which it is. Either way, it’s a beer with a very strong, if not sticky, malt backbone and copious amounts of hops. I did think there was a bit too much carbonation which took away from the mouthfeel and turned it into a gurgling mess. I did very much like this beer and would absolutely drink it again. Definitely worth a taste.

Bottle thanks to blutt59. Pours with a tan head and a brown body. Aroma of what smells like simcoe, herbal and dankness. Taste is really herbal, fresh and hoppy with grass, pine needles and caramel. Medium carbonation. Nice!
