COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The tenacious grip of big, juicy hop aroma and character slides smoothly into rich, dark malts. This heavyweight battle between fresh, Yakima Valley hops and dark, roasted malts is resolved harmoniously as the flavors merge to deliver complex satisfaction with a warming edge. Enjoy the ‘twilight’ for the bright and brassy hops!

On tap at Churchkey, Washington DC. Pours an amber, orange with a frothy white head. Strong citrus aroma. Well balanced flavor, citrus fruits, well rounded sweet, caramel malts. Sticky, bitter finish. Drinkable.

Beautiful beer that pours a gorgeous copper-black and has loads of hops of citrus and pine in the aroma. lots of grapefruit. Deep sugars and resiny malts are everywhere, but this beer is all about the hops. Beautiful hop profile that’s as good as the greats. Lovely piney grapefruits are everywhere inside this one and the malts are sticky too, but the lively carbonation keeps this one from being a one and done beer. Great brew.

Pours deep mahogany into a snifter. Tan head with good retention leaves sheet lacing. Dark caramel and grapefruit aromas. Fully with upfront deep, dark caramel changing to a lasting resin and pine finish. East coast arrogance...

UPDATED: NOV 15, 2009 Very flowery pungent aroma, almost lush like a greenhouse. Very hoppy Pours a medium dark brown with a thin white head that’s gone quickly and doesn’t leave much lacing. Very floral hoppiness up front. Some malt bitterness in the back. Lots of anise on the finish that becomes more pronounced the more you drink. Very nice palette, like a DFH 90. Great beer, I like this very much. Great cost/ABV ratio too.

Bottle, thanks to Victor for the share. Pours an amber body with an off white head. Very hop dominated. Pine, gassy herbal and pine accents. Woody hop resinous with some tea like bitterness. Nice brew.

20091103 12oz bottle from State Line. Cola brown with medium sized, fading beige head. Aroma is inviting with fruit cake, curacao, clove, tobacco, and intense pine. Medium carbonation is a bit overly spritzy to me but not bad and keeps the hefty beer from becoming cloying. Woodsy hops up front give way quickly to medium roast malts, slight molasses sweetness, then a punch of grain that could have gotten ugly but for an attack of dank, resinous, wonderful hops and intense bitterness. Fun beer. Too bad it’s 9% or I’d be loading up.

Cask at Barcade: Deep hazy rusty amber with a lacing dense light tan head. Has a big rich dark fruit & berryish hop presence with a dense crystal malt undertone. Silky/creamy palate- a well conditioned cask. Has a big crystal malt presence- slightly sticky with a husky note and lots of rich berryish hoppiness. Mildly resiny at the back with a balancing bitterness. Not bad, though a tad one dimensional, it’s still tasty.

On draft at The Happy Gnome. Dark amber-brown in colour with a fair bit of carbonation. Aromas start with orange and flowers before drifting into cocoa powder, caramel, and toasted malt territory. Hoppy in the mouth with dank citrus notes backed up with a bit of char and sticky caramel. Medium bodied.Coming into this, I was expecting more of an IPA-Porter hybrid like Phillips Black Toque, but this is definitely more like an IPA with a bit of mellow dark roasted malt added. Pretty tasty overall.

This is what Storm King tasted like before they dialed back the hops a few years ago. Wow, there are a lot of hops here, and they show flavors that I particularly like. Not the woodsy DFH stuff, not the simple pine of Avery, this is something very Victory--weird peach or something like it. I loved this.
