3.1 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pours dark brownish/red . Some hops but also malty aroma. Caramel/ roasted malt followed by bitterness. And bright hops. Not very aromatic. With Yakima in the name, expected more hop flavor.

UPDATED: FEB 7, 2013 Pours dark reddish brown with medium lasting foam. Smell is nice pine hops and caramel malt. First sip is very bitter, but the next one is nice sweet smooth malt with a heavy bitter kick at the end, nice beer.

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 19/20
12oz bottle into a pint glass.
Pours a clear dark ruby with a one finger dark tan head. Nice fluffy head retention and decent lacing.
Aroma is different than any other ABA I have had. Very nutty, almost like hazelnut, along with cocoa and a little bit of caramel and cinnamon. Nice Earthy hop undertones to prop it up. I donít know how they got that aroma without the use of spices!
More cocoa and hazelnut in the taste. Lots of caramel too almost reminds me of cinnamon roasted almonds or something. Wonderful light earthy hop flavor along with assertive bitterness. Mouthfeel is on the slick and sweet side but just barely stays restrained. Finish is a little sticky but understandable given the abv and amount of specialty malt.
Overall, a really great example of an American Black Ale. Great, unique, malt character and wonderful interaction between malt and hops. I really need to get some more of this this winter.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours a very dark orange color with a frothy off-white head. Nice aromas and flavors mostly consisting of the hops but balanced nicely by the chocolate and caramel malt. Pretty heavy body for an IPA with a moderately bitter finish. Overall a very good beer.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Poured from a bottle, dark brown with a reddish, copper tint. Off-white head that does not last long. Aroma of hops, some citrus, grapefruit, and pine, roasted malts. Taste is bitter hoppy up front with a bitter aftertaste. The malts are not showing up for me. Tastes like some IPAs that have too much pine.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle. Thanks to Seth (again) for the pour! The appearance is deep brown/amber with a small head. It certainly doesnít look like your typical black IPA! The aromaís massive sweet chocolate cake, cinnamon, general spices. Some charred grain. The taste is more spicy sweet cinnamon cake. Bitter, green grass. Large roasted malt body, bitter chocolate. Smooth, somewhat thick on the palate. Overall, not bad!

3.5 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 14/20
Tasty offering from Victory. While the packaging doesnít describe exactly what type of ale this is, it tastes like a robust black IPA to me. Itís got a real nice, lingering flavor that rests comfortably on my palate. Smells great, looks great, tastes great. Itís got a surprisingly high ABV at 8.7%. This one can be sneaky because itís smooth, so treat it with respect. Prost!

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
The pour is dark brown with reddish hues. It has a nice tan head that slowly fades into thick lacing. The aroma is screams IPA as the hops clearly win that battle. The taste goes to the hops as well. Iím not sure of the IBUís but I feel that itís a pretty high number. The malts take off the edge on the bitterness making the beer fairly smooth. Another solid and tasty brew from Victory!
