COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The tenacious grip of big, juicy hop aroma and character slides smoothly into rich, dark malts. This heavyweight battle between fresh, Yakima Valley hops and dark, roasted malts is resolved harmoniously as the flavors merge to deliver complex satisfaction with a warming edge. Enjoy the ‘twilight’ for the bright and brassy hops!

Pours dark amber with a thin wispy tan head. Notes of thick caramelized wort, resinous hops, sour citrus, grapefruit, spice, pepper, and alcohol. Full to heavy bodied with lush carbonation.

Yakima Glory pours reddish brown with a finger width off white head. There is good head retention, and plenty of lacing sticks to the glass. The first aroma I find in Yakima Glory is citrus, including grapefruit and lemon. I expected more of a roasted aroma in this beer, but I couldn’t pick any out of the bouquet. It smells like a regular American IPA to me, which means it smells hoppy and delicious! As I take my first sip, the citrus turns into pine. There is a slightly sweet caramel flavor in the middle, and it ends dry with a bitter finish. Yakima Glory has a medium body, and average carbonation. There is no presence of the 8.7% ABV at all in this beer, so be careful! Yakima Glory is a good IPA, however I prefer Victory’s HopDevil and Hop Wallop. Also, I am not sure how this qualifies as a Black IPA. To me, no matter what ingredients were used, it comes off as a hopped up amber or red ale. I noticed that Victory doesn’t call this a black IPA anywhere. In the beer description, they admit to using some dark malts, which, in my opinion, doesn’t exactly make it a black IPA. All in all, Yakima Glory is still a good beer!

Pours dark brownish/red . Some hops but also malty aroma. Caramel/ roasted malt followed by bitterness. And bright hops. Not very aromatic. With Yakima in the name, expected more hop flavor.

UPDATED: FEB 7, 2013 Pours dark reddish brown with medium lasting foam. Smell is nice pine hops and caramel malt. First sip is very bitter, but the next one is nice sweet smooth malt with a heavy bitter kick at the end, nice beer.

12oz bottle into a pint glass. Pours a clear dark ruby with a one finger dark tan head. Nice fluffy head retention and decent lacing. Aroma is different than any other ABA I have had. Very nutty, almost like hazelnut, along with cocoa and a little bit of caramel and cinnamon. Nice Earthy hop undertones to prop it up. I don’t know how they got that aroma without the use of spices! More cocoa and hazelnut in the taste. Lots of caramel too almost reminds me of cinnamon roasted almonds or something. Wonderful light earthy hop flavor along with assertive bitterness. Mouthfeel is on the slick and sweet side but just barely stays restrained. Finish is a little sticky but understandable given the abv and amount of specialty malt. Overall, a really great example of an American Black Ale. Great, unique, malt character and wonderful interaction between malt and hops. I really need to get some more of this this winter.

Pours a very dark orange color with a frothy off-white head. Nice aromas and flavors mostly consisting of the hops but balanced nicely by the chocolate and caramel malt. Pretty heavy body for an IPA with a moderately bitter finish. Overall a very good beer.

Poured from a bottle, dark brown with a reddish, copper tint. Off-white head that does not last long. Aroma of hops, some citrus, grapefruit, and pine, roasted malts. Taste is bitter hoppy up front with a bitter aftertaste. The malts are not showing up for me. Tastes like some IPAs that have too much pine. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Thanks to Seth (again) for the pour! The appearance is deep brown/amber with a small head. It certainly doesn’t look like your typical black IPA! The aroma’s massive sweet chocolate cake, cinnamon, general spices. Some charred grain. The taste is more spicy sweet cinnamon cake. Bitter, green grass. Large roasted malt body, bitter chocolate. Smooth, somewhat thick on the palate. Overall, not bad!
