The tenacious grip of big, juicy hop aroma and character slides smoothly into rich, dark malts. This heavyweight battle between fresh, Yakima Valley hops and dark, roasted malts is resolved harmoniously as the flavors merge to deliver complex satisfaction with a warming edge. It pours brown and yields a slightly darker colored body. A nice foamy white one inch head appears and lasts for a good minute before becoming lumpy and settling nicely at the top of the body. A fair amount of spider web yet foamy lacing occurs. Though a slightly transparent body when held up to the light, no carbonation is seen rising. The smell has the hops and the pine up front, a bit of grapefruit there, very subdued. The taste is bitter with the hops and pine dominating this aspect. The mouthfeel is a medium with nothing harsh on the tongue. It leaves a decent dryness. Though a fairly high ABV, still drinkable, the alcohol isn’t really noted or felt. Overall, a good beer by Victory.

On draft. Holy wow. Big aroma of floral and citrus hops, followed by a dark chocolate bomb of a beer. Almost stout-likr in depth if flavor. More raisin and red wine flavor as it warms. An all-timer.

"not a hop bomb as expected. there are a ton of hops, sure, but the high dose of dark malt give it the look and feel of a barleywine or old ale...with the hops of a double ipa. this is a beer i could really get into. smooth, balanced, spicy hops in the bittersweet finish. nice hybrid here. via trade w/ kinger."

Transfer from BA review from 7-2-12 - Poured from bottle into tulip glass Appearance – Pours a brown color with some red highlights shining through. Upon pouring there is a big and thick off white head. The head had wonderful retention but eventually faded to give a very nice amount of lacing. Overall quite an impressive looking brew. Smell – The smell was a nice blend of roasted malt and hop. The roasted aromas are big brown bread. The hop aroma is mainly composed of a sweet lemon aroma, almost hard lemon candy like with some other hop aromas of grapefruit as well. Overall the two blend very well together. Taste – The taste begins with a nice smooth and roasty malt flavor. Big in chocolate and roasted malt that begin the taste are quickly meet by some of the hop flavors that were in the nose. Right after the initial roastiness, a strong grapefruit hop bitter meets the tongue. At first the roasty and bitter seem to battle out, with a not so smooth transition, but quickly they seem to settle their dispute to meld very well together; creating a roasty and creamy bitterness. A t this time a very light yet persistent alcohol flavor comes to the tongue. All these flavors last to the end where some pine hop tastes as well as a light amount of floral hop are also detected, mixing to leave a pleasant smooth (from the roasty malt) yet bitey (from the hop) flavor on the tongue. Mouthfeel –The body of the beer is creamy and smooth with the carbonation level being rather average but very fitting for the roasty flavors of the brew. The boozy flavor in the taste furthermore produces a nice warming flavor on the tongue. Overall the Mouthfeel is quite nice. Overall – A tasty IPA with a wonderful roasty and hoppy flavor. It is relaxing with its slight alcohol booziness and roasty flavors, yet exciting at the same time due to its nice hop presence. Quite a good brew for either or.

[Tap] Nearly black pours with a quickly receding tan head. Chocolate, citrus hops and darker fruits in the aroma. Taste is of pinecone, grapefruit, chalky grains, chocolate and light hints of alcohol. Sweet and somewhat sticky character. OK overall. Tasting notes from 2012.

Aroma. One of the best beer aroma’s I have ever had the pleasure of experiencing. Rich malt and fruity hop notes. taste is similar, with a larger dark malt presence and sweet fruity hops. Wonderful beer! Favorite so far by Victory!

Best by 30NOV12 Pours a dark brown with a solid sheet of toasted cracker foam, the ale is surprisingly translucent. Lots of pine and resin in the nose with a bit of spruce character; the malts are toasted and like a brown ale: some tea character, a touch of spice and rye bread. Flavor is toasted malts, refined and soft bitterness and plenty of pine flavor. The malts are slightly spicy and a bit dry. Thin body with hi carb and a slick finish. This beer was worth trying, not sure I’d seek it out often. Serving type: bottle 09-14-2012

Bottle at Christine and Daves on Thanksgiving Day, 28/11/13. Found this at the back of Daves fridge, best before Oct 2010 - so old it carried the former name of this beer - Yakima Twighlight. Though I’d give it a go anyhow ! Pours dark chestnut brown with a moderate beige covering - full of floating globules, I’m going to ignore these for rating purposes. Nose is light roast, big burst of pine, sticky tropicals, caramelised sugars, dank hops. Taste comprises pine resin, dank hops, caramelised sugars, red grapefruit, caramel malt, sweet cake mix. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, sweet finale with hop bitterness present. This has held up amazingly well bearing in mind it should have been dealt with 3 years ago - carried more flavour than a lot of fresh beers I’d had this same day!

Pours a dark cola brown color with a thin mocha-taupe head. This beer was served too cold, so the aromas are muted. Chocolate and cola notes. A little flat, with a medium body. A lot if complexity. Chocolate, cola, vanilla, with a touch if bourbon, and bourbony alcohol. Cola sweetness and extraordinarily bitter.
