12oz bottle served in a standard pint glass. The aroma and taste are a nice balance of piney hops and roasted malts. The abv is not noticable in the taste and the beer goes down smooth and easy. Another solid offering from the folks at Victory.

Dark ruby red. Rich looking head of light tan rose up from the sides of the glass and reached a height of around two fingers before settling back down with a smooth and even lacing and a nice consistency hugging the glass. Aroma is a good bit hoppier up front. This one just seemed to be full of surprises. Rich caramel and earthy grains lie underneath a bouquet of pine like hops. Quite light and very complex. Very nice black IPA.

Pours a mahogany color with a thick tan head that leaves great lacing. Smells of pine, grapefruit, chocolate and roasted malt. Tastes of all the same things with a dark fruit flavor mixed in. Mouthfeel is heavy and chewy light carbonation and a dry finish. I really like the east coast style ipa mixed with roasted malts, its very well balanced yet strong at the same time.

UPDATED: APR 29, 2013 My Bottom Line:
Citrusy and resinous hops grow through delicate roasted malts as light berry notes appear through diplomatic caramel. This American Strong Ale’s multifarious flavor profile is deliciously harmonious.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A lofty head of foam covers the striking mahogany.
-With its bright citrusy hops, berry-like angles to its caramel malts and frothy, soft effervescence, this tastes like a cousin to SNevada Bigfoot.
-Alcohol is perfectly hidden.
-The finishing bitterness is a tandem of earthy hop resins and roasted malts.

Bottles.

Had on tap at Dunedin house of beers. Excellent beer. Highly drinkable for such high a high alcohol content. Not overly hoppy. Reminded me of a great double bock.

12oz bottle. Poured a dark reddish brown with a nice off-white head. Aroma & taste are much the same: big malts & hops: roasted malts, fruity, citrus, some pine. Medium body with a solid bite. Very good depth and very well balanced. I have not had that many Black IPAs but this one IMHO was excellent.

Bottle. Brownish-red pour with a creamy light tan head. Aroma of orange peel, roasted malt, light milk chocolate, some fresh herbal notes and citrus. Flavors are of roasted malt, chocolate, light pine, citrus, hints of booze and boozey fruits. Medium/heavy-ish body. Bitter in front, malty/roasty and bittersweet throughout with a warming creamy/fruity/long bitter finish. Overall, not really what I’d reach for when I’d need something refreshing, though it is a nice strong ale.

Smells of fresh hops and pine. There are malty undertones in this dark amber pour. Off white head with lacing. Starts off light and sweet followed by a big hop bite. Smooth finish.
