A spicy, malty body with caramel and brown sugar notes that are balanced consistently with a fresh, piney hop backbone. High alcohol covered nicely through the finish.

12 oz bottle. This pours a cloudy, dark brown color with some reddish hue and topped by a small, tan colored head of foam that quickly recedes to a thin film. Small splotches of lace cling to the glass and slowly rejoin the body below. The aroma shows notes of cocoa powder, dark fruits, and pine resin while roasted malts and toasted caramel forms the malt base. Biting grapefruit hops adds ample bitterness to the fold. The flavor follows suit with the cocoa, dark fruits, and roasted malts up front followed by grapefruit and citrus hop bitterness on the back end. Medium plus bodied and fairly smooth with good carbonation that leads to a slightly dry and bitter finish. This is a tasty enough beer, but it just seems to be all over the place. Its not quite a black ipa, but also not quite a barleywine either.

Light brown/yellow in color, lots of bubbles moving around. It had a distinct, earthy flavor that I really enjoyed. The hops are definitely present in a big way, but they aren’t bitter or funky. Another great beverage from Victory.

Draft. Pours a dark brown with small head. Smells of hops, citrus, and bread. Taste is medium bitter. Great.

Don’t know that I would call this one a black IPA. maybe a brown IPA if we were out to be naming things. Head is creamy and drops to a thin film. Hop nose dominate with all the typical floral, citrusy, fruity character and everything in between but the pungency and herbal and or piney hops take charge. there is is also some evident darkish caramel malts mixed in and possible some toasted malts character. Flavor lends a large amount of dark and caramelly malt flavors along with loads of herbal and pungent resinous hop flavors. full bodied an lightly to moderately sweet in the finish and sticky but bitterness combats this. Nice beer. could compare the malt flavors to tht of arrogant bastard just as a reminder note to myself.

On draught at Gallo’s Tap Room. The beer pours a clear dark brown color with ruby highlights. Medium beige head that fizzes away steadily. Partial rings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted malt and piney hops. Medium body with a roasty character and flavors of grassy hops pine, honey and malt. The finish is sweet up front and leaves a hoppy aftertaste. Above average overall.

Excellent. I need to try it again but this may end up being my favorite Victory offering, and that’s saying a lot.
