Very hop dominated. Pine, gassy herbal and pine accents. Woody hop resinous with some tea like bitterness. Nice brew.

Im not a huge fan of this style. Id rather then just make a double ipa and make it well. This imperial red/ipa/american strong ale shit makes me gag. But I’ll probably finish the sixer anyway. | 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jan 6, 2010 Pours a clear, translucent, dark mahogany. Aroma is spicy and hoppy and just a little malty. The richly hoppy flavor has a spicy undertone and an interesting metallic taste that complements the rest of the body rather than being unpleasant. The sharp, edgy texture has some tingle and a firm alcoholic bite. biznizness (959), Mooresville, North Carolina, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 6, 2010 Awesome, awesome beer. Bought a case. Powerfully hoppy, but balanced just enough to keep you drinking. Dark in color, just a great looking, great tasting, great drinking beer. A slightly hopped up Celebration. slang (410), Columbia, South Carolina, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jan 5, 2010 bottled. Great looking dark brown ale. Intense hop nose. The taste is upfront maltyness w/ a wildly strong hop bite. Really out of balance to me, tasty but w/ a disappointing homebrew thing going on. JK (2968), Richfield, Minnesota, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Jan 4, 2010 Big hop aroma before it is even poured, some citrus and wildflowers. Flavor is bitter, a hop-forward ale. Dark brown, but cherry when held up to the light. lacing head that never quite fades. Good hop flavor, medium palate with a little sweetness from the malt, with more flowers. Very light hop burn at the finish, and the flavor and aroma hide the surprisingly high abv dangerously well. Extremely drinkable. ajm (976), Los Angeles, California, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jan 4, 2010 Tap at Verdugo. I am not sure how fresh this was, not to indict Verdugo. Nose was really impressive and made me excited: thick hops, roast, almost a little chocolate/coffee. Flavor is that really typical "American Strong Ale" flavor, like Double Bastard or some backwater double Red Ale. So that was disheartening. But it’s big and made well enough - I just don’t need to have it again. KAggie97 (2485), Ugly, Hot, and Humid Spring, Texas, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jan 4, 2010 Tap at Flying Saucer. Pours a decent mahogany with an aroma of new plastic and sweet raisin berry. Flavor is strawberry syrup with grapefruit and a touch of blueberry in the finish. Decent mouthfeel. Nice Winter offering.
