1.4 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 6/20 Joeh (2038) - Buckinghamshire, ENGLAND - NOV 13, 2005
UPDATED: NOV 16, 2005 Going slightly against the grain here.... Bottle at Chris’. Looks ok but the aroma it gives off is one of rotting flesh and putrid fruit, and that’s how it tastes also. Absolutely appauling. It doesn’t deserve a decent score, im not convinced it was a bad bottle so back to a bad score.

A hazy red-brown beer with a thin beige head. The aroma is sweet with notes of chocolate and roasted malt. The flavor is sweet with notes of chocolate and roasted malt, while the mouthfeel is slightly carbonated. A very nice schwarzbier.

Draught at the brewpub. Almost black. Aroma is dominated by strong coffee notes. Flavour is roasted and malty. Finish is quite hoppy, but also sweet with toffee notes. The complexity of all the ingredients makes this the greatest Schwarzbier in the world. This is a world class beer.
4.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 20/20 Dixen (1465) - Flagstaff, Arizona, USA - JUL 23, 2005
Draft @ the brewpub. Malæty sweetness in the nose, good roast. Dark borwn to almost black colored beer with a beautiful ruby tint, nice medium off-white head on top. Roast in the flavor, sweetness, coffe and chocolate notes. Very balanced and a nice full body. Best schwarzbier ive ever tried.

Draught at the brewpub. Deep reddish dark brown coloured. Loads of coffee, chocolate and roasted malt with notes of toffee. Very smooth and soft. Rather hoppy for a Schwarzbier. Dry and bitter finish. Perfectly balanced. Full bodied for a Schwarzbier.
