3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20 Ernest (5610) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - MAY 10, 2013
Bottle.
Head is initially small, frothy, light brown, mostly lasting.
Body is clear medium brown.
Aroma is lightly to moderately malty (toasted nuts/bread, coffee, caramel), lightly to moderately hoppy (herbs, flowers).
Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly bitter.
Finish is lightly sweet, moderately bitter.
Light to medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation.
Another decent brew from Nothelfer. They aren’t very exciting brews, but they are very clean, and quite pleasant. This one has some nifty malt character (coffee, nuts, caramel, bread crust), but I wish it was more aromatic. Good balance in the mouth, but unfortunately very light bodied and thus not terribly satisfying to drink. Franconia is certainly no different from anywhere else in the world, there are plentiful brewing issues to be found (diacetyl, husky malt, etc.). The signal:noise ratio is about as mediocre as anywhere else with a decent brewing culture...so this is a nice ray of clean sunshine into my sampling explorations.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 stevoj (918) - Ramstein-Miesenbach, GERMANY - DEC 14, 2012
Surprised at this being classified as a dunkel, it seems right on target for the style. The aorma and taste show off the roast grains and its has just the right amount of coffee bitterness. Mouthfeel is slightly watery, and that seems to be the only downside.

Bottle @ Uncle Chris’ house in Fürth. Hazy dark brown appearance with a light brown head. A touch burnt, toasty malty, light caramel, nutty, herbal aroma. Well carbonated. Somewhat nutty, toffee, toasty malty, floral hoppy flavor. Not bad.
2.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 Koelschtrinker (8476) - Köln (Cologne), GERMANY - JUL 25, 2012
Milder Malzbeginn, weich. Im Mittelteil nahe der Wässrigkeit, geringe Röstnoten im Hintergrund. Das Bier ist insgesamt leider zu mild um wirklich zu gefallen, die Grundnoten sind dabei aber harmonisch. Schade. 8/6/8/7/9/7

bottle from landbierparadies. copperish with a disinterested beige head; aroma of old well and chocolate-coated strawberries; slightly tinny with stewed pears and some toffee; could use a bit more hop character

courtesy of Philipp and Thomas - clear and bright ruby-brown beer under a fast vanishing head; aroma of toffee with light earthy tones; medium-bodied, some tartness but pretty tasteless overall; quite dry earthy malty finish with lingering notes of caramel
