Ein sehr schön dunkles Bier. Im Antrunk sehr schön malzig, aber doch sehr dominierender Hopfengeschmack, der auch im Nachgeschmack noch sehr dominant ist und noch lange anhält.
Wer auf sehr herbe dunkle Biere steht, für den ist es bestimmt sehr lecker, aber mein Fall ist es nicht ganz.

Clear chestnut brown with a thin beige head.
Nose is bready malts, toffee, earthy notes, light hops.
Taste comprises caranel, dark fruits, sugars, bready malts.
Medium bodied, fine carbonation, crisp finish.

Draft at the Great British Beer Festival 2013.
Poured a dark ruby colour with a dense, creamy head. Aroma of malts, chocolate and caramel. Flavour is quite sweet with brown sugar, dried fruit and bread. Some grain and a little coffee on the palate.

Bottle, pours a dark red-brown with a lasting thin beige head. Malty, lightly roasty and cocoa nose, good hoppy bitterness then a chewy malt body, dry with touches of cocoa, burnt caramel and a vegetal bitterness in the finish. A nice Frankish Dunkel.

Gravity at GBBF. Amber-orange color with a thick, fine head. Rich chocolate malt flavor, caramel. Richly layered malt flavors, bready chocolate. Nicely done.

Chestnut color. Very malty vegatal nose. Cracked wheat, milk chocolate smooth malty mouth but not hugely balance. A touch astringent. Ok.

Cask at gbbf 2013. Attractive ruby red chestnut colour with a thick persistent cream head. Nose is wood and malty. Flavour is woody . med palate. Slightly metallic. Decent.

Bottle@home, 50cl. Head: beige foam. Colour: clear, ruby brown. Aroma: hops, roasted malt. Taste: medium bitter. Palate: refreshing, medium biiter finish, medium CO2. Overall: very nice.

from bottle. pours a clear, dark amber red colour with a small, frothy beige head that quickly disappears however. aroma is mainly roasted malts, nuts and a touch of caramel. quite high carbonation, light to medium body and kind of dry texture. really pleasent malty flavours and lots of nuts end in a fine, slightly bitter and dry aftertaste. good balance of sweet- and bitterness. highly drinkable stuff...

Head is initially small, frothy, light brown, mostly lasting.
Body is clear medium brown.
Aroma is lightly to moderately malty (toasted nuts/bread, coffee, caramel), lightly to moderately hoppy (herbs, flowers).
Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly bitter.
Finish is lightly sweet, moderately bitter.
Light to medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation.
Another decent brew from Nothelfer. They aren’t very exciting brews, but they are very clean, and quite pleasant. This one has some nifty malt character (coffee, nuts, caramel, bread crust), but I wish it was more aromatic. Good balance in the mouth, but unfortunately very light bodied and thus not terribly satisfying to drink. Franconia is certainly no different from anywhere else in the world, there are plentiful brewing issues to be found (diacetyl, husky malt, etc.). The signal:noise ratio is about as mediocre as anywhere else with a decent brewing culture...so this is a nice ray of clean sunshine into my sampling explorations.
