Alengrin (4467) - BELGIUM - JUN 19, 2015
One of the classic ’spéciales belges’, once a renowned brand in its own right, now one of the many InBev victims. Only purely commercial considerations will determine whether this is kept in existence or not, but in any case it has been an InBev-infected shadow of itself for many a year now. In this form, a clear amber coloured beer with decent off-white head and light (not to say thin) mouthfeel with hints of caramel, pasteurization obviously present, very light nutty touch, medium carbo and a weak touch of vaguely bitterish grassy hops hidden in the background. My father loved this in its original form, fortunately he will not be faced with this InBev ’imitation’ / abomination anymore. I wonder what the difference is with Ginder Ale and Horse Ale, if those two even still exist at all; it is an open secret that Jupiler has been sold as Safir from Aalst for quite some time by those capitalist crooks of InBev (or perhaps still Interbrew at the time) just to keep customers - I would not be surprised if something similar is going on with these three brands.

Gyldenbrun klar med kremete offwhite skum. Lukter noe røkt skinke og lett fruktig. Røkt også i smak. lett bitterhet som sitter ut avslutningen.

This beer has’t improved since Inbev took over. Their malts are just not as good as the ones the old brewers used. A pity, this used to be a good Belgian ale. The label is very messy, too.

bartlebier (3350) - Belchium im Biersgau, GERMANY - SEP 27, 2014
25cl bottle, Delhaize home, bb05/2015. A rough, adjunct-laden and colorant-studded "amber/ambrée/amberkleurig" macro interpretation of a spéciale belge, without any inherent malt aromas and very harsh green, grassy hoppiness. The aroma of burnt corn husks and old canned corn seepage is immediately off-putting, its watery texture belies its amber body, the harsh recipe leaves your palate furry, dry and unrewarded. - This always used to be the cheap grandfather version of Palm, but now it has degraded to even that common quencher’s undead husk.
