tytoanderso (1195), St. Louis Park, Minnesota, USA Oct 8, 2007 Bottle. Definite sour green apple in the aroma. Gives way to some malt and yeast, though. Bready, malty and a hint of grainy earthiness. The sour apple just a hint on the finish. Medium bodied. On odd Tripel for sure.
sliffy (1951), Columbus, Ohio, USA May 7, 2008 Bottle shared by Kris: Pours a clear copper with a white head. Aroma, caramel notes, yeast, some sour apples. Flavor, definite sour apples, very tart, infected. Will re-rate if possible. General_Gao (2568), Iowa City, Iowa, USA Mar 26, 2008 12oz bottle. Poured a dark orange brownish color. Head was light tan and reduced over a few minutes to a lasting film. The aroma was of cinnamon, apple, a dash of brown sugar, and a splash of alcohol. Fairly effervescent and slightly sweet. The body was lighter than I had anticipated. Interesting flavor. I tasted some fruity apple and a touch of roasty malt. There was also an occasional bacon-like note mixed with milk chocolate. This beer isn’t bad, but it certainly doesn’t conform to my idea of a typical tripel. But then, I doubt there are many monks in Dallas, WI. Gurst (327), Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA Mar 18, 2008 Light, fruity smell gives way to a thin-bodied, sweet & sour (near bitter) tripel. Has some interesting flavors: raisin, peach, caramel, toffee. The finish is odd: burnt raisins? Potatoes? Body is light and not sticky at all. I expected something dense but it is actually quite refreshing. 1FastSTi (2402), Glendale, Wisconsin, USA Jan 7, 2008 Thanks Bob. The beer pours to a glowing orange woody body with a thin ring of white head. The aroma is basically a fruity, yeasty Belgian beer. Very average. The flavor is sweet Belgian candi sugar, tobacco, and very simple malts. Average sweet medium bodied palate. Ughsmash (3070), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA Dec 17, 2007 Hooray, Bob, for bringing a Viking beer I haven’t tried! Poured medium caramel with a shorter cap of off-white/beige head. The aroma picked up spicy notes and fruity sweetness upfront.. good, but too sweet for me to really like it.. some bready and earthy notes as well. The flavor had sweet caramel and fruity notes at the core with some other, rather empty sweetness and not much hop presence.. nice little bit of cookiness at the back. Sweet and lighter-bodied on the palate with a decent balance.
