COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Mjød was the first Bracket produced in the US. It is a specialized beverage unlike any other. It is a honey based fermented beverage that Viking has hand-crafted to capture the essence of Mead.

Mildly hazed lifeless reddish amber with no head. Aroma of honey, spice, sweet malt and tannins. Taste of honey, malt and spice. Thin body but thick in the honey department with a very dry finish. Okay.

22oz bomber. Barely any hiss when opening the bottle. A tiny, unimpressive head sits atop of a filtered amber-brown body. Brutal honey-alcohol aroma. Wow, I wish I had split this at a tasting or something, it is pretty harsh to take solo. Im no mead expert, so this is venturing into uncharted territory. Lacks most beer characteristics other than some off flavors, this is watery booze. The aroma is what really does it in, must have been over-aged. Perhaps another casualty from the Viking bottling line. Pretty horrid stuff, best avoided.

A 09 bottle poured into three tulip glasses it produced a finger worth of white head that went to nothing. The body of the brew was a beautiful clear amber color. Honey is the one word that sums up the nose. It did have some light fruit aromas of apples and grapes as well. The flavors were a close following of the nose. Not to sweet it did have a nice balance to it. The one thing I would have changed was I wish it had a little more carbonation because it came of a bit syrupy. I had another one of their bragget’s and the carbonation was spot on. The bottle glasses didn’t last us long; it was a nice treat to share. I say it was well worth the try

Bottle. As with almost all of the Viking beers, there is NO head, and until you take a sip you wonder if you got a bottle that went flat. But nay, there is just an ass crack of carbonation lurking deep within. Flavor is initially caramelized malts and honey, fades into something resembling sour grape candy? This beer is all over the place flavor wise. Strangely enough, along with the smooth medium body it doesn’t come across as awful. It could however pass as some sort of strange alcopop malt beverage. What a strange brewery that Viking is.

Bottle shared at puzzl’s New Year’s Eve 2009: Still copper pour with a sweet caramel and banana aroma. Slick and thin body with a nondescript flavor. Some faded old dark fruits and grains. Quite boring.

Bottled. Strong, citrusy, lemony, lots of apple and fruit and other American fruits. A little bit of sweet, "beery" flavor. Spritzy, soda-like flavor, very reminiscent of a shandy, with that sweet, underfermented lager underscoring a mediocre soda (or mead, in this case). It’s just a dull, one-dimensional blend that fails to impress.

bomber straight from the brewery... brick red and rather (or surprisingly) thin looking for a mead with an off white head and spotty lacing. extremely floral aroma... along with notes of ripe peach, red apple, caramel-y malt, vanilla and a touch of smoke. vinous feel and flavors... tart honey, grapes... more akin to wine poached golden raisins, herbs, flowers, native flora and some caramel toasted grain with a slightly tart peachy finish. it tastes like honey yet it is fairly dry throughout... unexpectedly. i guess the alcohol and odd tartness keep it lighter on the tongue.

there’s something in here which i cannot place. it is intriguing and perplexing but not necessarily good... if that makes any sense? but, i can’t stop drinking it...7/4/7/4/13/3.5

Rating # 200, 1st mead rating.. Thanks Hophead22 for providing this bottle.. Pours a dark amber with no head.. Aroma is very sweet with apple juice and alcohol.. Flavor was sweet like apple juice with some grapes.. Low carbonation.. Looks like mead is something right up my alley!!
