COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Mjød was the first Bracket produced in the US. It is a specialized beverage unlike any other. It is a honey based fermented beverage that Viking has hand-crafted to capture the essence of Mead.

#56 for this beer, 22oz bottle, shared for DuffManSW’s 200th rating. Dark amber with no head at all. Sweet, with a high alcohol aroma, gren apple aroma as well. Tastes like apple juice, hard cider, not much too it, not my bag though. (977)

Bottle - Hmm...not sure what just drank. I’ve only had one other mead, and this was nothing like it. Poured brown with very little head and no carbonation. There’s bourbon and sherry on the nose, and it’s pretty boozy. Taste is port wine, honey, and cherries, along with a lot of booze and Bit-O-Honey candy on the finish. Seriously. Feels a bit nasty in the mouth--real syrupy, like drinking a really sweet mixed drink that you expect to taste upon waking in the morning. Thankfully, I didn’t, but this still didn’t do it for me.

Pours a clear orange color with essentially no head. Aroma is quite rich with fruits, very cidery, vinous. First sip left a strong negative impression: thin, nearly flat, with a strong alcohol burn and flavors reminiscent of cheap brandy. It slowly showed a bit of fruit complexity and grew on me, flavors are largely vinous, bits of green apple and cinnamon spice in the middle, some toffee on the end. Once the harsh booziness faded, has a lot in common with an abbey brown ale. Overall, sweet at the outset, but having a nice, crisp tart finish. At the end I’m unsure whether I like it or not. Not what I expected and slightly disappointing.

Strong honey, citrus, orange, and malt in the aroma. Light sour flavor but well blended with the sweet honey and malt. Good brew.

Bottle. A amber beer with a off-white head. The aroma and taste is of mellon, plum and honey, sherry like. Medium body with a dry finish.
