3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Roasted malt. Very dark - almost black - with a persistent head. Had from the bottle. Probably the best Icelandic beer you can get, regardless of style.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle… Man, this beer was a bitch to find in the database since the label is printed entirely in Icelandic and ratebeer’s listing is entirely English. Thank God for hoosierbeergeek.blogspot.com and, of course, Google. Anyway… Pours clear and mostly black with a small, fluffy, cream-colored head. So-so retention. The chocolaty, nutty aroma presents lesser notes of yeasty Russian black bread, spicy clove and dark fruits. Medium-bodied with busy carbonation. Nicely balanced. Leans just a hair toward the sweet side of balance, but pretty even overall. Dark chocolate and roasted nuts stand out in the flavor. Finishes crisp and very clean. Interesting. Flawless. Odd, but good.

2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bottle shared at the District. Dark brown/black pour with a small tan head. Weak and discombobulated with coffee, burnt roasted malt, and bitter chocolate flavors. The nose was faint but sorta followed suit.

Bottle bought in Reykjavik.
Black with a small head. Drinkable but both the aroma and taste were weak. Coffee, chocolate, caramel and some smoke. Mild bitterness and not that long aftertaste.

3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
UPDATED: JUL 1, 2011 Bottle. A black beer with a small, dense, dark beige head. Roasted, meaty nose with licorice and some coffee. The flavor has roasted malts, coffee, licorice and some chocolate. Full body, and a lasting coffee-like roasted finish with a touch of licorice. A pleasant and surprising stout. Rating: 7-4-7-4-15-3.7. 110330
Bottle, courtesy of saxo. A dark brown beer, seemingly see-through, and topped by a dense, tan head. The aroma has a lot of coffee, as well as chocolate and a touch of prunes. It’s smooth and medium bodied in the mouth, quite sweet in the flavor and with coffee and chocolate. Drying towards the end. A quite decent one, a pity the aroma is so boring. Certainly one of the Icelandic beers I could drink more of. 110416
