8 oz glass at Beer Revolution (Calgary). Clear golden with a small white head. Light cereal and biscuit, a touch of noble hops. Medium body and carbonation. Quite light, faint cereals, a touch biscuit and grassy hops. Meh.

Village Blonde goes down easy. Hmm, is there a joke in there somewhere? Faint grass and grain aroma and taste.

Draft sample during Calgary International Beerfest 2014. Medium blonde with a mild haze. Sweet grainy profile, simple. No real hop character. A bit thin.

8oz draught at Beer Revolution. Heard good things out of Calgary about Village. Not sure if this beer is included in the hype. 4.5%. This is a crisp, clear, grainy blonde beer with a dry, bland, macroey type feel. Woopdeefuckindoo.

330ml bottle pours a clear bright golden color with a finger of white head that settles down to leave some spotty lacing on the glass. Aroma is grassy and grainy with some pepper. Taste is a grainy malt sweetness with a grassy and spicy bitterness. Light bodied with moderate carbonation. A quality blonde ale that is worthy of sampling.

Tap at Beer Revolution. Pale yellow with a light whitish cap. Nose has light grains and weak fruity note. Taste is rather light with a grainy base. Some grainy aftertaste. Light brew overall.

Looks lively. Pale yellow with thin white head. Malt and fresh bread aroma. Was refreshing with clean finish but not robust or complex enough to be called a blonde ale.

UPDATED: MAY 22, 2012 This is a brand new batch, consumed just a day after bottling. Yellow in colour. A malty, kind of sweet aroma and flavour, with a very slight hoppy bitter finish. Nothing special, but an okay beer, and it seems they improved their product from the earlier batch.

I was stoked for the release of this beer. The concept of the brewery is amazing, integrating the community and promoting local artists etc. Hearing that the brewery management was made up of mostly ex Big Rock folk initiated my skepticism of what this new brewery could produce. Unfortunately the first release was a bit disappointing. Clearly this beer was rushed for production and the result is a mediocre blonde that hopefully is not a foreshadow for this new brewery in Calgary. The aroma is a big turnoff hinting of moldy grains. The appearance, well they nailed that down. Yes, it is a blonde. Itís light taste has nothing to impress, in fact Iíd rather have some major commercial blonde than this microbrew. Overall this is a poor blonde. Iíve only been homebrewing for a year and Iíve made better blondes than this. I wish Village all the best and hopefully now that they are up and running will put more time into developing better brews.
