1.4 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 5/20
500ml bottle. Pours a clear pale yellow, with persistent bubble trails. Semillon and over-ripe pears mix with soap and a fair bit of sugar to create a lacklustre aroma. The faintest hint of lemon tartness up front is almost instantly overcome by over-ripe pear and sugary, cloying sickly sweetness. This drowns out all other flavour, so that this really does feel like drinking fizzy sugar syrup. This is an absolutely terrible perry, one of the worst I have had.

2.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
’Perry!?’’ strange, almost extinct varietal of pear and the blood of any pear cider. I’m curious but sceptical of any that come on the market of late labelled as ’Pear cider’ and this one is no different. It is loud once it hit the pint. Bubbles bursting everywhere atop a sparkling yellow body; this one is alive with effervescence. Lean on the pear in aroma. Bursts of overripe apple and Romano cheese with a musty, plastic Gouda note. Clammy and sweet with good body and a vibrant mouthfeel. Lasting sugary fruit mess has a strong white grape flavour atop just a little of the drawn tanginess of plump pears. Straight forward and not one for me. So SWEEET!! (50cL, BB 21/08/13, Liquor Barons, Ocean Reef)
