COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The strongest, darkest of ales was originally brewed by the British excusively for the Imperial Court of the Czar. This recipe uses imported English Pale Malt, generous portions of Dark Chocolate Malt for a smooth roasted character and Golding Hops for a light floral balance. 10.8 abv

Tap - well it is better then the irish stout, but still roasted too long. It has floral notes with a chocolate nuttiness and still a mild lingering charcoal bitterness.

Thankfully they didn’t burn the melts on this one as badly as they did on the Irish dry stout. Pours with virtually no head from the tap. Faint hint of chocolate on the palate but fades very quickly.

Serving: Draft at the brewpub. It pours pitch black with a small, dense, dark tan head. The nose has a good bit of roast, some chocolate malt, husk, alcohol, and a touch of flint. Somewhat boozy upfront with a good bit of roasted bitterness on the tongue. There’s a slight burnt note, seemingly a touch of wood, an odd grain note I can’t place, and a little underlying sweetness. Rich in body with slightly high carbonation leading to a lengthy roasted finish. A little one sided but still rather tasty.
