A West coast style American Pale Ale brewed with equal portions of Pale and Vienna malts to provide lots of malt backbone and a dark straw color. The hop varietals are horizon for bittering and cascade for flavor and aroma. This brew is not for the hop impaired and is known to induce hophead hysteria.

Served on draft at the brewpub on 10/20/10. Pours a hazy orange color with a large creamy white head. Good head retention and lacing. Aroma of citrus, earthy and herbal hops and pale malty notes. The taste is bitter leafy hops with some herbalness as well as some peach-like fruit notes. Fairly dry. Medium bodied. Good beer, but there’s something about it that doesn’t appeal to me.

Tap at the brewpub. Hazy golden, small white head, great lacing. Aroma and taste hinted at wheat, with a bit of bubblegum and citrus. Tasty

On tap, at brewpub. Pours a slightly hazy dark gold body with a small white head. Citrusy hop nose with some light pale maltiness. The flavor is has a light floral and citrus hoppiness with fairly light bitterness on the finish. Clean pale malt base. Light to medium bodied with just a bit of doughy clinginess on the finish. OK, not great, but no flaws at least.

(Sample Date: 3/21/2009 Source:Other) Growler from the brewery. Very slightly cloudy amber golden with a small fine white head. Citrusy floral hop nose with underlying caramel and light graininess. Flavor follows aroma with a very light fruity character. Finish is dry and moderately bitter.

Draft. Pours a hazy deep orange with a frothy white head. Heavy pine and citrus notes in the nose. You can definitely tell this is west coast style. Medium carbonation with a medium mouthfeel. Powerful hops with pine and citrus up front, followed by floral notes and a strong bitterness. Eventually a little orange and some sweetness from the malt are able to emerge. Long, bitter finish. You better like hops if you go for this brew! On the downside, there is a strong bitterness component similar to aspirin that makes it a bit much to session.

Sampled at Northern Virginia Brewfest. Pours a hazy yellow color. Citrus and Hop aroma. Subtle and complex at the same time. Impressed with this one.

5oz draft at the brewery. Clear and clean looking body, orange rust in color. Velvety, slick but supportive palate, wonderful texture overall, right about where I want a good, oiily, hoppy pale ale. Fresh, almost leafy, but more oily and slick like fresh SNPA is. Light grapefruit and sweet crisp lemon in the flavor, just the slightest bit dank. I really liked this beer, but at a warmer temperature I started to notice some diacetyl.
