3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 Elwood (2491) - Leesburg, Virginia, USA - MAR 7, 2010
Serving: Draft at Vintage 50.
A very dark brown pour with a slight cloudiness and some ruby highlights. The head is small, foamy and has a light tan character. The nose is roasty but subdued with notes of soy, a pinch of coffee, wood, and slight herbal hop notes. The taste is far more dominant than the nose lets on. Pleasantly roasty with nice hop notes, good earthiness, a bit of coffee, slight mineral notes, and a little underlying caramel malt sweetness. It has a medium-light body with medium carbonation and a slightly coating mouthfeel to it. The finish is medium and roasty. Great drinkability and it has a well hidden punch at 7.6% ABV. A damn fine brew and worth stopping for!

Gravicask, one-third pint at the USA Cask Ale Bar where the ales were gradually released during GBBF’11. Faint beige head that left solid lacing at the glass. Nice mahogany body colour. Brown and black malts to the nose. Tasty stuff with elements of chocolate, anise and bready malts supported by spices. Gentle bittering malts to the ending. Absolutely satisfying (London, 04.08.2011).
