COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The relatively new Black IPA style, alternately called "Cascadian Dark Ale", celebrates the craft-brewing heritage and bountiful hop cultivation of the American Pacific Northwest. Brewers in "Cascadia" (Oregon, Washington, and Northern California) are fortunate to have the freshest and best hops close at hand, and brewing trends that originate there are often bold and hop-heavy in the extreme. Well we love hops, too! "Black Mirror" packs a whallop of American hops into every delcious sip. Brewed to double India Pale Ale strength (8.2% abv), it features an intense and beguiling hop aroma, bracing bitterness (calculated at over 100 IBU’s!), and a complex tangle of hop flavors like a sticky resinous bramble in an ominous shadowy forest of dark malt. Cascadia is really just a state of mind!

Tap. Dark pour with a lot of off white head. Smells of hops and toasted malts. Tastes a little sweet on the front with a bitter finish. Very good. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On tap @ Vintage. Pour is deep brown/black with a khaki head. Aroma shows notes of light roast, pine, and light citrus. Flavor shows notes of caramel, dusted cocoa, florals and a touch of coffee. Overall body is lighter than I was expecting and the finish is nicely balanced.

Draft at VIntage. Deep brown-black body, beige head. Pronounced hop aroma. Not as crystal malt oriented as some, a tad watery. Big citrusy hops shine through the malt. Really well done, just a touch thin. Oily coffee, chocolate, burnt caramel. Solid execution, good beer.

Tap. Pours black with a creamy tan head. Aroma is chocolate malt and roasty malt with light pine. Flavor is bitter pine and spruce hops with some chocolate malt. Mostly has a lot of bitter pine hops. Palate is super bitter and mouthwatering. Some charred feeling. Medium bodied. A bit unbalanced.

At the brewery before the penn state Wisconsin game. Go Penn State. Pours a non translucent light black (is that possible) with a dark cream color head that lingers. Smell is of hope and roasted malt (I’m totally getting into this black ipa deal really like the ying yang of hop and roast). Taste is hops up front and well balanced with a carmelly roast malt and coffe finish. Another well done brew from this place. Very well done.

10/22/11. On tap at the brewpub. Black pour, moreso deep red under the light, with a small tan head that sticks. Mostly roasted aroma of coffee and just a touch of citrus. Rich, roasted flavor as well with a bigger touch of citrusy hops. Good, but moreso a hoppy porter. Nice.

On draught at the Vintage brewpub in Western Madison, Wisconsin. Pours a clear dark cola brown colored brew with a thick and creamy beige head that has some excellent retention and lacing. Aroma of chocolate, toasted dark malts, some citrus hops and a hint of pine. Taste is medium to full bodied, flavors of doppelbock-style yeast, toasted chocolate malt, and a hint of citrus hops. Finish has some mild sweet aftertaste followed by more dark chocolate and a mild bitterness that slowly disappears.

On tap at Vintage Brewpub. Dark mahogany with a medium tan head and minor lacing. Aroma is of the forest floor – pine, resinous hops and cat pee with dark malts, caramel and chocolate. Taste is nicely balanced with pine, resinous and floral hops plus caramel, dark malts, light chocolate and alcohol. Smooth and super tasty with a moderate bitter finish. This is a stellar DBPA and because I wrote it my damn sampling notebook – it’s Tits!
