Our brewer’s latest pet project blends the earthy, coffee-like flavor of roasted chicory with the nutty, "amaretto" sweetness of toasted hickory nuts (hand-picked on our family farm) and a woodsy dash of hickory chips, for a bock beer unlike any you’ve tried. Liquid artistry at it’s finest!

Tap at Vintage. Ruby burgindy-brown, looks unfiltered. Hard to get much aroma from the thin, tall glass. Sweet brown sugar flavor, lots of malty depth. A really solid Bock, Vintage is getting there Bock skills up. Medium bodied feeling, very easy on the palate. Nutty, toffee, brown sugar sweetness. Really smooth, really enjoyable.

On draught at the Vintage brewpub in Madison, Wisconsin. Pours a clear reddish cooper brown colored brew with a fast dissipating off-white head that leaves behind some spotty lacing. Aroma of some slight medicinal hops, caramel malt and a touch of wood. Flavor is where the hickory wood really comes through. Flavors of caramel, some floral hops and a very light vegetable. Finish is semi-dry with a lingering hickory wood and light caramel aftertaste. Short lived bitterness with a slightly chicory vegetable aftertaste.

Sampled from the at the brewpub. Pours a hazy dark brown with a brown head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has a good amount of dark grain with a bit of a wood and caramel note. Flavor has a good amount of sweet grain and bread witha hint of oak and caramel.

On tap at Vintage, pours a murky brown with a thin white head, the aroma has a fruity notes with quite a bit of sweet malt and wood, the flavor is very smooth with a nice malt backing with a ton of wood notes in the finish, pretty weird brew.

On tap at Vintage - Pours hazy brown with a thin tan head. Nose is sandalwood, toasted dark bread and a touch of hickory (or what I assume is hickory). Very pronounced woodiness in the taste--I guess that’s hickory (though I would’ve guessed cedar)--with a big perfume/incense quality to it. Pretty nutty, with a lot of dark bread and a touch of coffee grounds. Too perfumy on the finish. Thin-bodied, though nicely carbonation. Interesting mix, but didn’t quite work for me.
