3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Taster pour at Big Barrel Tararrel 2013. Deep brown amber. Thin, oily off-white head. Chocolate apple booze aroma, sublime. A very unique combination, the barrel comes off a little strong, maybe too dominant. Sweet oily malt tones underneath, a little faded. Has that oily sweet chocolate tone reminiscent of a Dunkel, very Eastern European feel. Still keeps its Belgian/US strength, complexity. Not really an improvement on the original, but a cool, unique melding of flavors.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
On Tap at Big Barrel Tararrel 2013 at Vintage Brewpub. Pours decapitated mahogany. Aroma picks up brandy and booze and apples up front with vanilla, oak and fruits underneath. Excellent tasting brew, the brandy barrels compliment with beer nicely. Brandy, cherry, apple, vanilla, oak, dark fruits, dates and light pepper on the palette. A bit of booze and warming with a fruity finish. Excellent!
