COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Originally brewed by English brewers in the late 1800s for export to the royal court of the Russian Empire, imperial stouts were once the private beverage of the czars. Very dark, with big roast and dark malt flavors, significantly hopped for balance against a massively chewy full body, and with a warming strength that can melt away the chills of a harsh northern winter...these are the trademarks of an imperial stout.

UPDATED: OCT 31, 2012 On tap. Very dark beer with tan head and lacing. Smells of roasted Malts and coffee. Taste is surprisingly hop forward at first. Ends with lingering malt flavor, and some alcohol burn. Medium body. A decent offering. Pairs well with some hearty meals.

Draft at Vintage. Deep opaque black, thin light beige head. Roasty coffee, chocolate aroma. A little undercarbonated, but spot on for the style. Oily, resinous chocolate tones. Smooth vanilla, quite drinkable despite the richness. Clean..for the style. Creamy chocolate milkshake tones, minimal and pleasant wamrth. Nice!

On tap at Vintage Brewpub. Dark brown with a tan head and plenty o’ lace. Aroma is big with dark malts, roasted malt, chocolate and alcohol. Taste is big and bold as well with plenty of dark roasted malts, chocolate, dark fruit, alcohol and a hint of caramel. Some burn and a hint of bitterness.

On tap at the brewpub - Pours dark black with a small tan head. Fairly roasty nose, but with some lactic sourness. Taste starts off with lots of dark roast, charcoal, tar, dark chocolate, and transitions into a real bitter dark roast finish. Lightly lactic and warming on the finish. Pretty flat in the mouth and thick, kind of like a thin milkshake. Pretty straightforward, but just not a style I’ve been digging lately.

On draught at the Vintage brewpub in Madison, Wisconsin. Pours an opaque cola brown colored stout with a creamy beige head that has excellent retention and lacing. Aroma of black malt, chocolate malt, some mocha and floral hops. Taste is medium to full bodied, chocolate and English dark malts, floral hops, a hint of citrus and some light vanilla. Finish has a sharp bitterness followed by a chocolate and coffee aftertaste. Alcohol presence is hidden well from malt and hop flavors.

On tap at the brewpub. Beautiful deep black pour with a tanish head. Great mix of sweetness and roastyness. The alcohol is well hidden and masked. Great brew I hope they do some fun things with in the future.

On tap at Vintage Brewery, pours a dark balck color with a nice tan head and some lacing in the glass, the aroma is very sweet and even has some notes of raisin in the aroma, the flavor is sweet with a strong backbone with sweet malt and some chocolate notes, there is a little bit of booze in the finish as well, pretty good.
