COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Can an ale be both rich and flavorful & light and drinkable? Our Irish Red satisfies both parties, with a big chewy malt character and smoothness for days. McLovin is brewed with an array of imported caramel and roasted malts, and distinctively fruity and aromatic English yeast, and is nitrogen-charged for a creamy texture and beautiful cascading presentation.

Clear--dark copper with an above average white head that dies quickly but laces the glass nicely. Very light mouth feel for this style. Light alcohol too. Very malty yet too light for my taste. Actually decent for chugging, if that’s what you’re looking for.

Wrapping up the night with a good irish ale I chose one of the regular beers that I haven’t yet had. An average release, this beer was not the best on tap but neither was it the worst. They can’t all be home runs.

Aroma / Appearance - The slick base has an opaque ruby hue with orange accents. Caramel chews, hints of spices, and a sweet base are very dense for the style.

Flavor / Palate - The thick caramel glaze starts at the front of the throat and moves downwards. Melted red licorice peeks through from time to time. The latent kick was surprising. Overall this is another fine beer from the brewers in Madison.

Pour on tap at Vintage Brewpub (Madison, WI). Pours a richer deep copper brown hue, hint of haze but near transparent. Richer deep glow, more orange and touch brighter on the edges and bottom. A frothy tannish head dies to a mellow layer, laces ok and sticks around in a decent film. Aromas are touches of carmelization and toast, gentle kisses of toffee, more biscuit and bready malts with a hint of spice and earthy dry hops, bitter light quality. Smooth, mellow, a touch toasty. Initial is lighter end of medium bodied, preaching gentle carbonation and carmelized malts up front. Gentle toast, biscuits, and touches of dried fruit, a bit of raisin and oranges. Middle offers a bit of mellow fruit, biscuits. Backend quickly moves into dry florals and earthy hops, gentle with a light dryness, some toast, lingering carmelized malts and touches of spice reminiscent to some Dunkin Donuts Munchkins, perhaps the yeast or spice? A bit sticky, fruity, mellow finish yet that spicey element is distinct. Not bad. Interesting for a largely dull style in my opinion. Gorgeous pour though.

GNBF. Poured clear, honeyed amber with a short off-white head. The aroma picked up sweet, toasty caramel and fruity malts with fresh, light grass and citrus accents.. well-balanced. The flavor found toasty, lightly-smoked honey, fruit, and caramel malt at the core.. fresh, complementary bitterness around.. again very well-balanced and tasty. Lighter-bodied with just enough carbonation to keep it moving.. this came together well.

On tap at Vintage brewpub. Clear copper with a thin tan head and a ring of lace. Aroma is slightly nutty with caramel and light floral hops. Taste of caramel, toffee, light nuts and a touch of diacetyl. Highly carbonated (definitely not nitrogen charged, this on was so-so.

On draught at the Vintage brewpub in Madison, Wisconsin. Pours a clear copper colored brew with a slow dissolving off-white head that leaves behind some spotty lacing and a film top. Aroma is malty, with profiles of caramel, toffee, butterscotch and floral hops. Taste is light to medium bodied, flavors of butterscotch, caramel and floral hops. Finish has a soft palate, with a lingering aftertaste of caramel and light butterscotch.

On tap at brewery, pours a nice amber color with creamy white head, flavor is bread like with touch of malt, overall it seemed a little thin, not bad.
