Tap at Sweet Mullets. Burnt copper. Very sweet and malty and delicious. Just a slight hop bitterness.

On tap at Erv’s Mug. Crystal clear amber with a medium tan head. Aroma of toffee, malt and mild noble hops. Taste of caramel, toffee, light fruit and faint noble hops. Among the better blandtoberfests I’ve had this season.

Relatively mild. This oktoberfest brew just didn’t speak to me, it came across as tried and not true.

Thirsty Troll Brew Fest. Pour is amber with a khaki head. Aroma is bready with underlying notes of toffee and earthy/floral hops. Flavor shows pretty much the same. This was well made but probably the least impressive offering Vintage had for the day. Then again, i’ve never really been a fan of octoberfest beers.

Tap at the brewpub. Clear amber pour with a small thin dense ring of a white head. Sweet malt aroma, not very big. Medium-light palate. Sweet caramel malt flavor, nice.

Draft at Vintage. Filtered orange-brown. Doughy aroma, smooth malt backbone, but displays some off flavors. Sweet, with a sharp pepper flavor, sort of throws it off. Soapy. Some mellow fruity amber malt tones. Unimpressive.

On tap at the brewpub. This has been the year of good and bad Oktoberfest’s. I have had the worst I have ever had, and I have had a few of the best. This is one of the the ones on the top. Good mix of bread, caramel and malts. Good solid brew.

Pours clear brown/copper with a thin head. Light malt aroma. Moderate malt flavors. Medium-light body with a light hop bitter finish. Not bad, I like a little more malt in an Oktoberfest, but this is nicely done.

On draught at the Vintage brewery/brewpub in Madison, Wisconsin. Pours a clear copper colored brew with an off-white head that slowly dissipates and some spotty lacing. Aroma of caramel malt, a hint of toffee and some roasted nuts. Taste is medium bodied, with caramel malt, toffee and a hint of floral hops. Finish is semi-sweet, malty with a mild bitterness. Hard to determine if this is a Vienna or Munich style Märzen, or one of the best hybrid Oktoberfests I’ve encountered.

On tap at Vintage. Poured clear, lighter amber with a short cap of white head. The aroma was weak with caramel and lesser fruity notes “leading”.. soft and pleasant, though. This one was tasty.. toasted caramel and pale malts at the core with crisp, leafy bitterness around.. a hit of citrus and a touch of prickly alcohol on the finish. Light-medium bodied, crisp, and well-balanced on the palate.. good stuff.
