Draught sample at the brewpub, October 13th. Inky black, completely opaque, with a bit of off-white head that lasts as a persistent small ring...sweet aroma of oatmeal with brown sugar, perhaps a bit of raisin - a good breakfast choice and here I can comprehend stout-with-breakfast...a tiny hint of sweetness at the front, quickly turning to intense roasty bitterness which lasts through the whole taste, with a very dry, bitter, lightly ashy finish...just a tad on the thin side, slightly overcarbonated. I took my time with this and it definitely improved over the tasting; why oh why can good brewpubs with serious brewers still not serve their beers at the proper temperature? This was never going to be a great one for me, but I can imagine enjoying a full pint at a much warmer temp more than I could this sample, or it’s BBA cousin which followed, cold.

Sample at the brewpub. Murky brownish-black color with a medium tan head that recedes gradually to a film. Patchy lacing on the glass. Aroma of roast malt, chocolate and coffee. Medium body with flavors of roasted coffee, dark chocolate and malt. The finish is sweet with a mocha aftertaste. Decent overall.

3oz on tap at the brewpub. Black color. Nice thin light brown head. Leaves good, thicker lace. Medium plus body. Smooth kind of chewy lighter carbonation. Light slick finish. Good dark chocolate, oats, some decent coffee flavors. Moderate bitter, light to moderatre sweet. Solid flavorful stout. Some good earthy hop in the finish.

Draft. Dark black/brown pour. This one is slightly more robust than your typical oatmeal sotut otherwise its pretty standard.

On draft at Vintage. Pours really dark with small dark creamy head. Hints of oatmeal and unsweetened chocolate. Smooth clean finish but lacking the true oatmeal stout punch.

On tap at the brewpub. Pours a black with a tan, dissipating head. Aroma of roast and dark rich chocolate malts. With a bits of coffee, caramel, and oats. Flavor if fairly bitter from the roast with notes of oatmeal and other dark malt sweetness. Nice, soft pillowy texture with average carbonation. Finishes fairly dry and roasty.

Tap at Vintage. Solid stout for sure. Dark black pour with a slight tan head. Big roasted malt, bitter chocolate and a touch of coffee here. Really smooth, very nice.

Had it at on tap Vintage Brewery in Madison Wi.poured a solid black color, that’s how I like my stouts. Light yellow head uneven lacing. The expresso is nicely pungent in aroma and flavor.
