It’s hard to ignore the lemon doctored light beer phenomenon known as shandy. What to da? Out botanist friends at Gorst Valley Hops harvested the sticky sour edible flowers of local staghorn sumac, which we steeped in light golden ale for a mildly herbal and tart summer refresher. Crisp, quenching and indigenous!

A very interesting description required that I investigate this tap closer. The payoff was a refreshing, solid, and exciting beer that leaps out of the glass. This is not your grandmother’s shandy with watery alcopop.

Aroma / Appearance - The carbonated golden base shimmered with lots of life. A shifting soft white head bobbed like frosting on top. Lemonade, grains, and light floral accents are deceptively simple. The entire bouquet is inviting without being in your face.

Flavor / Palate - Rosy floral notes highlight the introduction. Next comes a mixture of light carbonation, wheat, and handmade lemonade. What it lacks in depth it makes up for in flavor profile. If I had a growler of this it would take only a few hours before it were empty and I’d have to be back for more.
