COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our wit bier is a beautifully light and refreshing fuit-infused ale. Brewed with a portion wheat and oats, and spiced with two types of orange peel and coriander (as well as another "mystery" spice), the subtle citrus aroma leads to a wonderfully smooth and soft flavor, again hinting at orange and spice, with a dry, refreshing finish. Theres nothing bitter about whippoorwill- its soft and fluffy as white clouds on a summer day!

Sampled from the tap at the brew pub. Pours a near clear pale gold with a white head that lasts throughout the beer. Aroma has a good amount of sweet wheat backed by light citrus, light fruit and spice. Flavor starts with light fruit and banana with a bit of backing spice and wheat.

Hazy orange-tan. Thin white head. Fresh doughy aroma, a tinge of lemon and orange. Smooth, medium bodied, pretty well done. The yeast shines, as to style. Creamy and refreshing. Lemony wheat, vanilla. A good rendition.

On tap at Vintage Brewpub. Hazy witbier yellow with a thin white head. Aroma of coriander, orange peel and zest, yeast and mild oatmeal. Taste of coriander, orange, orange peel, oatmeal and yeast. A touch over carbonated but pretty good overall.

Draft on tap the brewpub (Madison, WI). Pours a decent hazed straw golden hue, a touch of glow, with a frothy whitish head that dies to a decent sized ring. Aromas are light flaked wheat, a touch of spice. Fading orange peel, pretty clean, with a touch of sweetness, very mellow on spices and citrus.. Almost not strong enough. Initial is lighter bodied, some crisp orange oils hit the palate, with bread dough, flaked wheat, a bit dulled. Citrus, coriander is very light as the orange oils sit well on the palate. Into the back, tart and citrusy with an easily quaffed lighter wheat beer presence. Finish is a touch bitter, cereal grains, touches of fruity esters. A wit that lacks some life.

On draught at the Vintage brewpub in Madison, Wisconsin. One of the last pours of the 2010 vintage (no pun intended) batch. Pours a hazy golden colored brew with a fast dissolving white head that dissipates to a thin white ring. Aroma of golden grain malt, a hint of lemon zest, white pepper and a touch of Belgian yeast. Taste is medium to full bodied, coriander and orange flavors comes out more in the flavor than aroma with additional flavors of cotton candy, white pepper and a touch of biscuit malt. Finish is nicely balanced. Not too sweet or dry. A touch more on the lemon citrus side than orange/coriander than I am used to with Wits but still enjoyable.

On tap at Vintage. Little to no head, no lacing. Hazy orange color. Smell and taste of orange and overwhelming spices. What a blue moon would taste like if it were good!

On tap at the brewpub - Pours light golden yellow with next to no head. Smells light and lemony, with lots of crackery malt in the background. No clue what the mystery spice is, but there’s tons of lemon in the taste, with that same sweet, crackery malt. There are some rye notes, which I found odd, and something I can’t place (rice?) on the finish. Lightly syrupy, but smooth and pleasant in the mouth. I liked this better than Tyranena’s wit, but this isn’t my favorite style.

On tap at brewpub
My second order was another lighter style as it was a warm day outside. This wit beer certainly hit the spot. Clearly the brewers here at Vintage are on to something. I hope they do not begin to coast. Madison could use another great brewpub to keep Great Dane and Ale Asylum honest.

Aroma / Appearance - Dark and hazy this golden body was murkier than the previous sample. A thin crown of off white head hid scents of white pepper, yeast, and lemon pledge. Tart and crisp the overall impression was perfect for the style.

Flavor / Palate - Lemon peels drizzled with honey then dipped in a pot of pepper filled the mouth with an explosion of flavor. Creamy like a candy bar the mouthfeel could be too cloying for some. I however liked it after so many watery light beers in the last month. Feeling like lemon sorbet melting on the tongue it left behind a malty finish. Depending on the time of year this could be the perfect beer to drink. I hope it gets some more exposure outside of Madison.
