COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A unique India Pale Ale experience, Woodshed has roots in both English and American ale traditions. English Maris Otter pale malt and an array of imported caramel malts make up the base, counterbalanced by a complex schedule of 5 hop and 2 oak chip additions. The fruity and woodsy British hops First Gold and Fuggles feature prominently in the aroma and flavor, while a subdued yet distinctive oaky essence winds its way throughout this beer’s character. Imagine a hearty English IPA riding in an oak barrel on a tallship en route to India 150 years ago.

Thirsty Troll Brew Fest. Pour is burnt orange/amber with an off-white head. Aroma shows grapefruit, orange zest, tangerine, oak, and a light grassy/herbal character. Flavor shows the same with citrus and caramel giving way to some peppery oak and finishes with lingering pine resin. Overall body is moderate and so is the bitterness on the finish.

On tap at vintage. 4oz taster pour.... Pours a hazy tea resembling earthy brown pour and topped with a thin creamy white head... Papery oak to begin with ten moving to more of a piney citrus hop note in the aroma. More oaky then hoppy unfourtunately ... Citrus and piney hop upfront, lighter oak tones through the middle and then finishes on a light earthy bitter note. Carbonation is a touch too crisp and lighter bodied after all. Bitterness becomes more prominent as the beer warms.

Tap at the brewpub. Mostly clear orange/amber pour with a nice frothy cream head. Mose of mild grapefruit and wood. Medium bodied. Larger citrus hop bite, wood, and malt - a little astringency late.

On tap at Vintage Brewpub. Caramel orange with a lacy tan head. Aroma is woodsy and floral with a pale malt backbone. Taste of pine and woods with pale malt and mild caramel. Body is a shade too sudsy and finished up dry with moderate bitterness.

Draft on tap the brewpub (Madison, WI). Pours a nice deep amber hue, some glowing orange and touches of copper, with a decent hop haze, frothy offwhite head atop that dies to a thicker ring, laces ok. Aromas are citrusy grapefruit, lemons, and florals. Touches of grass, bread dough, wet oak, faint vanilla, pale malts, and touches of sweeter caramel. Moderate strength nose. Initial is a good sturdy hopping offering citrusy grapefruit, lemon, some tropical mangos, grass, florals. Dry and fruity, moving into some soap, toffee, and bread. A touch of toast, biscuits, some oak offers a touch of wet wood and sweetness. Backend stays bitter, cleaning up a bit and balancing. A solid IPA, a good punch up front trails off a bit into the back. Vibrant fruity front and good dry hops move into a dry floral and soapy finish, with some of that malt body peeking through. Overall, a solid IPA with a good hop melange. The oak is light Could use more.. But they all could really. That’s nickpicking. Balanced.

Poured from growler...copper/mango in color. Soft carbonation. Soft, citrus-type hopping with some wood. Flavor is lemon zest/floral hops, fairly faint malt backbone. Salty oak flavor in the background, brings a bit of nice complexity.

On tap, and shaker served at Vintage during Madison’s Craft Beer Week. Displayed a hazed, orange/amber hue, with modest, off white head foam, and fair cling to the curtainy lacing. The nose was mainly resin and a little woodiness, with some mid-fruit, citrus, and pleasant, light sweetness following up. The flavor was more sharp, resiny hop bitterness, and less balancing malt. Still, a decently drinkable IPA.

Draft at Vintage. Pours a deep copper with fluffy white head. Nose is decidedly hoppy, but quite generic. Somewhat herbal and a hint of resin. Biscuity malts and a suggestion of vanilla as well. On taste, soft and medium bodied, again, somewhat generic. Could use more bitterness and hop flavor to really shine. Okay.

On tap at the brewpub - Pours clear amber with a very thin white head. Not a very pungent nose, with some light citrus hops, a little grassiness, and decent malt balance. Taste is light malt base with grassy hops. Finishes soapy, with light citrus. Some oakiness and more grassy hops on the finish. Not my thing.

On tap at the brewpub. Wood wood and more wood! Nice deep golden pour. Balanced between the malts and hops, but again more wood. Hops don’t linger on the end which I like. The wood was just too much for me, but seems like a solid IPA.
