This sounded like a great beer and it did not disappoint. Oaked IPAs are a beer style that sometimes feels overdone. However as usual Vintage nails it.
I wish they were more available but it makes trips back to Madison worthwhile.
Aroma / Appearance - A clear golden body sparkles in the dim light by the bar. Muddy leather, wet leaves, and a split of oak and hops make this a mellow release.
Flavor / Palate - Damp shoe leather, oak, lemon rinds, and citrusy hops are an excellent blend. This was not overdone. The hops eventually brighten up as they hang in the back of the throat.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
On tap at Vintage. Poured clear, medium orange with a nice, creamy beige head. The aroma picked up sweet caramel surrounded by juicy grapefruit and peaches.. soft oak gave a nice complement.. great balance! The flavor didn’t hold up as well.. sweet caramel and fruity notes at the core.. grapefruit and tart oak around.. too much sharpness from the oak to really be enjoyable. Light-medium bodied and well-carbonated.. again too sharp for my liking.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Sampled from the tap at the brewpub. Pours a hazy orangish gold with a tan head that dissipates to the edges and laces. Aroma has a strong citrus note with a bit of oak and a backing grapefruit note. Flavor starts with citrus up front with grapefruit and pine growing and a hint of backing oak.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Draft at Vintage. Unfiltered orange-brown. Creamy off-white head. Mild aroma. A pretty nice IPA, chewy hop tones, solid malt backbone. A respectable concoction, clean and fresh. Orange citrus hop tones, somewhat piny. I don’t get much oak. Toasty, well done.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
10/22/11. On tap at the brewpub. Clear amber pour with a nice khaki head that sticks and laces a ton. Nice bold, hoppy aroma of citrus, pine, and a touch of wood. Rich hoppy flavor as well but with a much bolder oak presence. Big green hop character as well. Not bad!

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: SEP 18, 2011 It is in fact woody but not the greatest ipa. The oak adds a nice bit of character, but I could go for more hops.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Thirsty Troll Brew Fest. Pour is burnt orange/amber with an off-white head. Aroma shows grapefruit, orange zest, tangerine, oak, and a light grassy/herbal character. Flavor shows the same with citrus and caramel giving way to some peppery oak and finishes with lingering pine resin. Overall body is moderate and so is the bitterness on the finish.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
On tap at vintage. 4oz taster pour.... Pours a hazy tea resembling earthy brown pour and topped with a thin creamy white head... Papery oak to begin with ten moving to more of a piney citrus hop note in the aroma. More oaky then hoppy unfourtunately ... Citrus and piney hop upfront, lighter oak tones through the middle and then finishes on a light earthy bitter note. Carbonation is a touch too crisp and lighter bodied after all. Bitterness becomes more prominent as the beer warms.
