COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A unique India Pale Ale experience, Woodshed has roots in both English and American ale traditions. English Maris Otter pale malt and an array of imported caramel malts make up the base, counterbalanced by a complex schedule of 5 hop and 2 oak chip additions. The fruity and woodsy British hops First Gold and Fuggles feature prominently in the aroma and flavor, while a subdued yet distinctive oaky essence winds its way throughout this beerís character. Imagine a hearty English IPA riding in an oak barrel on a tallship en route to India 150 years ago.

A nice amber IPA with a thin off white head. In aroma, biscuit malt with smooth piney hops, grassy notes, orange pulp, pungent and fragrant. In mouth, a nice IPA with dry malt with grassy pungent hops, catty notes, orange notes, very nice. On tap at brewpub, Jan 20 2012.

Tap @ Vintage with nuplastikk. Pours a bit hazy orange appearance with a cream colored head. Somewhat herbal, a bit woody, light caramel, grapefruity/tropical fruity flavor. Fairly citrusy, grapefruity, a little bitter, a bit oaky flavor. Not bad.

On tap at Vintage. Poured clear, medium orange with a nice, creamy beige head. The aroma picked up sweet caramel surrounded by juicy grapefruit and peaches.. soft oak gave a nice complement.. great balance! The flavor didnít hold up as well.. sweet caramel and fruity notes at the core.. grapefruit and tart oak around.. too much sharpness from the oak to really be enjoyable. Light-medium bodied and well-carbonated.. again too sharp for my liking.

UPDATED: SEP 18, 2011 It is in fact woody but not the greatest ipa. The oak adds a nice bit of character, but I could go for more hops.

Sampled from the tap at the brewpub. Pours a hazy orangish gold with a tan head that dissipates to the edges and laces. Aroma has a strong citrus note with a bit of oak and a backing grapefruit note. Flavor starts with citrus up front with grapefruit and pine growing and a hint of backing oak.

10/22/11. On tap at the brewpub. Clear amber pour with a nice khaki head that sticks and laces a ton. Nice bold, hoppy aroma of citrus, pine, and a touch of wood. Rich hoppy flavor as well but with a much bolder oak presence. Big green hop character as well. Not bad!

UPDATED: JAN 1, 2014 Tap at the brewpub. Mostly clear orange/amber pour with a nice frothy cream head. Mose of mild grapefruit and wood. Medium bodied. Larger citrus hop bite, wood, and malt - a little astringency late.

Draft at the brewpub. Classic visuals for an American IPA. Delivers a bit of a floral, spicy aroma and flavors, but is very even. The wooden aftertaste is a bit subtle, and even hints at a little bourbon. (#5128, 7/3/2013)

Draft on tap the brewpub (Madison, WI). Pours a nice deep amber hue, some glowing orange and touches of copper, with a decent hop haze, frothy offwhite head atop that dies to a thicker ring, laces ok. Aromas are citrusy grapefruit, lemons, and florals. Touches of grass, bread dough, wet oak, faint vanilla, pale malts, and touches of sweeter caramel. Moderate strength nose. Initial is a good sturdy hopping offering citrusy grapefruit, lemon, some tropical mangos, grass, florals. Dry and fruity, moving into some soap, toffee, and bread. A touch of toast, biscuits, some oak offers a touch of wet wood and sweetness. Backend stays bitter, cleaning up a bit and balancing. A solid IPA, a good punch up front trails off a bit into the back. Vibrant fruity front and good dry hops move into a dry floral and soapy finish, with some of that malt body peeking through. Overall, a solid IPA with a good hop melange. The oak is light Could use more.. But they all could really. Thatís nickpicking. Balanced.

On draught at the Vintage brewpub in Madison, Wisconsin. Pours a semi-clear orange amber colored brew with a creamy off-white head that quickly dissipates but leave behind some excellent lacing. Aroma of typical 3-Cís citrusy hops (Cascade, Centennial, Cluster), grapefruit zest, tangerine and a hint of multi-grain golden malt. Taste is citrusy, medium bodied with falvors of grapefruit, tangerine, multi-grain malt and a touch of spruce. Bitterness is short lived with some aftertaste of sweet citrus and a hint of vanilla. A nice soft IPA flavor without the normal lingering bitterness.
