COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Virtue Cider is doing cool things in the world of cider. For their latest, they “borrowed” an idea from Beaujolais producers – Beaujolais Nouveaeu, specifically. They picked the freshest fruit to make the freshest, youngest cider possible.

Our first release of the 2013 harvest. French, dry, sparkling, and a perfect new tradition at your Thanksgiving table. To be released each year on the second Thursday of November.

   AROMA 7/10   APPEARANCE 3/5   TASTE 7/10   PALATE 3/5   OVERALL 16/20
TheAlum (5205) - Lisle, Illinois, USA - JAN 24, 2014
750ml bottle from Binnys Naperville (Naperville, IL). Finally got around to grabbing this one to keep the series going. Opened with Mrs. Alum. Pours a well hazed almost murky yellow champagne hue. Lively bubbles, quickly dissipating brighter white head dies to nothing. Bubbles stay through the body, dulled translucent body shows that champagne slant. Aromas are a bit yeasty and dry, gentle spiciness meets apple juice and skin, a gentle kiss of white grape, champagne like with some yeasty funk, faint vanilla. A bit of sulfur and stink at times. Initial is lighter bodied, dry and a bit yeasty, with gentle red apple, touches of yeast, dryness and gentle mellow spice. A bit bland and mellow semi-sweet qualities, the residual sugars are well fermented out, touches of vanilla, gentle clove and spiciness. Mellow sweet and tart apple qualities mix in and out, subtle, lighter body. It’s pretty approachable, perhaps a bit bland as a focus or strength doesn’t develop for me. The apple sugaars are fermented out, but the yeast also doesn’t assert and dry it out as much as you’d expect. Subtle vanilla, clove, and spice give it a touch of complexity, with gentle tartness, apple skin and mellow white grape. Solid stuff. Not my favorite cider from Virtue thus far but it certainly is pretty solid. Quite approachable. Kinda would like a bit more yeast/dryness to come in on that backend but it’s certainly enjoyable and grows on me as the dryness and yeast creeps in a bit more further in.

BMan1113VR (7788) - Los Angeles, California, USA - JAN 12, 2014
2013 Vintage bottle filled to the brim. Expensive for a young cider at $21 for a 750ml. Pours with a lightly hazy, pale golden hue with a fizzy white head that dies quickly. Aromas are slightly sulfuric with moderate funk notes, brett, barnyard a low chlorophenolics. Lemony acidity, manure and fresh cut grass. Despite some of those descriptors the overall impression is of a nice cider. Flavors are dry, bright, medium low acid with very low tannin for what I was expecting. Lots of strong apple character. Full carbonation, mild sulfur notes. Dry finish. Pretty good, but not too complex.

Pours golden yellow, clear, nice bubbles. Aroma is apple and yeast, subdued. Taste is slightly tart, subtle apple, yeast, very dry finish. Essentially apple champagne, fun to try.

Bottle. Poured clear amber color with a minimal fizzy head that lasted with good legs. Medium sparkling sweet apple aroma. Medium to abundant body with a smooth texture and lively carbonation and good legs. Medium to heavy sweet crisp apple flavor with a medium to heavy sweet finish of moderate duration. Solid drinkable complex cider.

Smooth. and easy to drink. Refreshing. Great, light, sweet, moderate tart taste, very tasty.; Good fresh apple, very light funk, light mustiness. Some pear. This is a great cider. Light, easy drinking. Delicate, yet incredibly complex and tasty.

750ml bottle - super funk on this one. Weird Band-Aid aroma , wasn’t coming through in the taste though. Some dry champagne like qualities . Not bad but far from my favorite from Virtue, who normally make outstanding ciders.

750 ml bottle shared by Tmoney99. Pours a clear watery amber with a few random bubbles. The aroma and flavor have sweet apples, some tart character, dry, flavor softens at the finish.

b3shine (4416) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - DEC 18, 2013
750 ml bottle to snifter (2013 harvest; shared by Tmoney99). Looks good; a transparent apple juice with thin white lacing. Smells solid; a nicely balanced apple profile. Tastes like it smells, only not quite as balanced. Much more tart, with a dry mouthfeel. Not bad.

MicroGrog (302) - FT: Stale Polotmavý in Queens, New York, USA - DEC 9, 2013

$10 Bottle from NBD. I hope their future releases are just as reasonable, because $20+ sidra clones just don’t cut it.

Sizzling tulip pour. Clear, vibrant, pale gold. Active.
Smells of pears, plastic, floral perfume, & alcohol. Just a touch of footy/sweaty funk that fades with time.
Acidy, floral, & incredibly dry. Flinty. Bitter core. Almost medicinal. Faintly yeasty. Residual mintyness.
Dry mouth & aggressive alcohol. Minerally. Thin. Bubbly.

Not my favorite type of stuff, but I appreciate the effort. Apples tasted a bit empty here. I still would rather drink real sparking.

Pours a lovely sparkling gold with a perfect amount of carbonation. Fresh pressed apples, mild hint of funk on the nose. Taste is of a dry brute champagne with just a hint of lingering residual sweetness. Clean, crisp and refreshing, super crushable and just another well made cider.
