COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Sidra de Nava is a tart, lemony summer Spanish-style sidra. The Asturias region produces 80% of the Sidra in Spain, and the Asturian summer is something to behold. The skies are clear and blue, the cafés full, and Sidra reigns supreme. Every café and Sidrería pours it – either ’thrown’ from a bottle or pipa (pitcher) held high overhead or straight from the kupela (barrel). Afternoon drinking under those blue skies leads to long nights of music, dancing and of course, more Sidra. The climax of the summer is the Festival de la Sidra in the village of Nava, held each July.

Virtue’s Sidra de Nava is more tart than the dry ciders of England or funky cidre from France. It’s lemony nose and bracingly tart dry finish are a happy intersection of cider, dry white wine and fresh squeezed lemonade. It’s the most refreshing of drinks, pure sunshine in a glass.

Apple vinegar. Surprisingly sour taste. I enjoyed, but couldn’t finish a 750ml bottle. Clear straw color, with thin body and little head.

Sample at Local 44. Aroma is acetone, acidic fruit, and nail polish remover. Flavor is same but more restrained with some apple skins. Thin and clear looking with a tangy and sour finish. More of a bad Berliner.

(bottle - corked & caged 750 ml) Light gold color with a thin white head. Oddly sour and dry aroma that started odd but improved with a bit of breathing. Flavor started off the same way, but vastly improved the more it breathed. Sweet apples come through with a really nice sour component.

aroma is highly acetic, with plenty of lemon. not particularly complex, faint barnyard hints. really a vinegar bomb. still, and quite cloudy, a dull grayish yellow. yeah there’s some lemon there, and the aformentioned highly acetic nature, but there’s also a rodent in my glass. or so it seems. Seriously mousy cider. Seriously off-putting. Seriously disappointing. Wish it was drier too; I prefer my lemon vinegar mouse cages to be less sticky. Bummer.

Bottle thanks to Adam! Pours a clear water with a yellow tinge and no head whatsoever. Aroma has a good amount of acid with a tart apple backbone. Flavor has lots of tart apples that finishes with a good amount of sourness and a hint of pear.

Draft at Moriartys. Hazy pale yellow pour with minimal head. Quite tart and dry. Meyer lemons. Bamboo shoots. Green apples. Wine vinegar. Actually feels a bit like a lemon version of a Flemish Red. No so bad at all.

On tap at Bavarian Lodge a ways back. Similar to a good Berliner but with just a bit of acetic acid.

On tap at Capitol Beer & Tap Room. Pours clear pale gold with a tiny white head and a sour apple aroma. There is a very sour apple flavor with a dry finish.

Draft at 7 Monks. Near clear with no head. Perfectly balanced and not sweet. Just great.

UPDATED: MAY 4, 2014 bottle. Pale golden with minimal head. Very tart and lemony. Light apple. There’s some odd leathery/chemical taste to this that is somewhat distracting. After how much I enjoyed the Mitten, I’m rather let down with this one. Ended up having it on tap at a a later date, and thought it was quite good. the off flavors were missing, a huge improvement. rerate reflects the tap version.
