1.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 1/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 5/20 Marduk (1258) - Tallinn, - NOV 15, 2012500ml bottle. Hazy dark mahogany color. Medium size head appears and fades away in a speed of light (seriously Viru wtf is this?). Yeasty, sugary, malty and faint sour notes in aroma. Aroma is not bad actually, but nothing exciting as well. Ohhh my it’s sweet! Very sweet. It’s like warm Coca-cola. But sweeter. This is the worst x-mas beer from them over the years no doubt about that!
2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20 neverleaveopen (62) - GERMANY - MAR 30, 2013
clear, dark brown with a small, fine head. sweet caramel aroma with some roasty notes. far too sweet taste with ok finish.
1.5 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 5/20 agent_persik (105) - Tallinn, ESTONIA - JAN 27, 2013
Black color, small head, which disappears totally in seconds. Light yeasty caramel aroma. Taste is very sweet and sugary, with caramel and some spices, short ashy finish. Medium body and soft carbonation, too sweetened and unbalanced. Overall not nasty, but doesn’t taste like beer at all, reminds me of Dr.Pepper soft drink.
2.5 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 hens (195) - Tallinn, Estonia, ESTONIA - DEC 14, 2012
0.5l bottle. Overcooked bread and soy sauce kvass mix aroma. Taste is stranger. Some cooked vegetables with sugar, woody and little overcooked apple pie with cinnamon. Too much sugary. Finish is boiled cola with honey hops? Stranger and sweetness is constraining. Maybe next bottle taste better :)
2.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20 estpiwo (1086) - ESTONIA - NOV 22, 2012
Dark brown color, creamy head disappeared so fast. Sweet herbal aroma. Taste was sweet, strange herbal taste also (something like Jäägri õlu some years ago). Before Wild dark drank Puls Jõuluporter - same taste. One beer, two labels?
1.4 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 4/20 FatPhil (7494) - Tallinn, ESTONIA - NOV 14, 2012
500ml bottle (?, Tallinn) - shared by Marduk - thanks!
Initial offally iron-blood aroma, later a bit toffee. Pours dark and fizzy, head did manage to last a minute. Sweet and viru-ey. Messy, dirty, irony, sugary sweet. Ug, do not like. Some cigarette butts in the finish. I want to scrape this off my tongue. In some way it’s not a disaster, but in others, it is.
1.8 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 6/20 thirstyrabbit (719) - Tallinn, ESTONIA - NOV 12, 2012
Bottle. Dark brown body with a fast collapsing foamy head. Typical Viru aroma with iron and sugar. I think I’m getting tired of that. Sweet malty and herbal taste with little to no roastiness. Weak hoppiness in the finish. Terribly unbalanced - this kind of sweetness would perhaps work in a considerably stronger brew. This feels rushed and unfinished. I expected the GB series to improve but it actually goes downhill.
1.6 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 5/20 suurjuust (603) - ESTONIA - NOV 8, 2012
Cola brown, quickly diminishing small head. Nose is sugary, malty, vague dried fruit with the trademark Viru rubbery grain nastiness. Taste begins with sugar, water, dried plums and finishes with more sugar and some fruity licorice notes. Very thin and sugary, leaves an oily and sugary aftertaste. Very disappointing for "best Estonian Christmas beer".
1.1 AROMA 1/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 3/20 toffeeslot (116) - Tallinn, ESTONIA - NOV 7, 2012
Pours very thin. Almost no head. Sweet caramel licorice aroma. Taste is incredibly sweet, with caramel, malt sugar and artificial sweetness all cramming your mouth in one go. No bitterness. No mouthfeel. This lasted two mouthfuls before I poured it away. If this was voted the BEST Estonian beer at the food festival, I dread to think what the others tasted like. Or maybe they should just choose judges who actually understand beer....
1.7 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 6/20 Senka (117) - Tallinn, ESTONIA - NOV 2, 2012
0.5L bottle. 2 weeks old. Pours dense black. Feint aroma of caramel, cask and chocolate. Plastic hops and mouldy yeast. Hazy with minimal to none head (17 seconds from 1cm to 0). Quite sweet, and it taste like sugar water. Medium body, greasy texture, soft carbonation, abrupt finish. I had really high hopes for this beer (I used to like GB series, and Wild Dark also was heavily promoted @ recent FoodFest). Unfortunately, it does taste like syrupy water and nothing more. First mouthful is enjoyable for exactly 3 seconds, and then it gets unpleasant. It goes flat after 2 minutes, and starts to remind "winter" kvass with bits of wax and plastic. Not a pleasant experience. I will give it another go in several weeks, when it will be snowing again. P.S. If you remember Puls Jäägri Õlu - WD is very similar.
