Originally sold by Tartu as A. Le Coq Premium Extra. The beer was bought by Brand Independence Ltd in 2006 and renamed Viru. It is contract brewed by Tartu for Brand Independence Ltd.
Ingredients: Water (from one of Europe’s deepest wells); Malted Barley (Lithuanian); Sugar; Saaz Hops; Yeast.
‘Viru’ (pronounced ‘veer-roo’) is becoming a well known Baltic states’ beer export. Brewed in the university town of Tartu, Viru is packaged in a octahedral bottle designed over 100 years ago, and thought to be based on the churches and towers of old Tallinn, capital of Estonia.

A very pale yellow with a short-lived white head. Aroma of grains and malt. Sweet, honeyed taste which is quite mouth-filling. Hop taste is rather weak without much bitterness to offset the slightly cloying sweetness. Bread-like after-taste. Not bad, but needs a little more hop flavour. Bottle is very individual and characterful.

Bottle from Tesco. Pale, yellow coloured with a fleeting frothy white head. Aroma is sweet grains. Flavour is sweet cereal, and some honey.

Ragnampiza (427) - Rome / Lecce, ITALY - AUG 26, 2014
300 ml funky looking bottle. Pale golden yellow, crystal clear, with a small, creamy but not persistent bright white head. Dusty and grainy nose, slightly hoppy (earthy), some sweet malts, a hint of wet cardboard and herbs/grass. Sigh, another cloyingly sweet pale lager. I was hoping for some decent bitterness from the Saaz hops but no.. Sirupy, honey like and sugary sweetness. Slightly astringent, almost no bitterness whatsoever. Relatively easy to drink, but pretty much unpleasent. Average carbonation, light body, slightly creamy texture. Another new country tick, at least.

Bottle. Pours clear pale golden, small white head, dissipates quickly with little lacing. Aroma is grain, grass, hay. Flavor follows, little sweetness, medium bitter, clean, clear of defects, refreshing. Light body, plenty of carbonation.

Bottle from Bridge Tavern Newcastle. Nicely shaped bottle - contents pretty textbook - bread, sweetness

edsspoon (418) - Nottinghamshire, ENGLAND - JUL 28, 2014
Bottle - lawnmower beer. Pale yellow with a thin ring of a white head. Aroma of lager malts and grass, very faint though. Taste is beer flavoured water, essentially - some bitterness, lemon and sweet malts. Light body, light carbonation.

lower than average lager, nonexistent flavor balance (you can only taste low quality saaz), overpriced garbage

cmacklin (265) - Lethbridge, Alberta, CANADA - JUL 26, 2014
300 ml bottle. Pours a clear yellow with a small white head. Aroma of grass and malt. Slightly sweet flavour of malt and corn. Light body with a watery texture and soft carbonation. Thirst quenching, but just another boring lager.

teddybeer (2224) - Madrid, SPAIN - JUL 17, 2014
Golden color with a quickly diminishing white head. Aroma is light malty with grassy notes. Flavos is slightly bittery with a weak maltiness. Watery and weak final.
