Originally sold by Tartu as A. Le Coq Premium Extra. The beer was bought by Brand Independence Ltd in 2006 and renamed Viru. It is contract brewed by Tartu for Brand Independence Ltd.
Ingredients: Water (from one of Europe’s deepest wells); Malted Barley (Lithuanian); Sugar; Saaz Hops; Yeast.
‘Viru’ (pronounced ‘veer-roo’) is becoming a well known Baltic states’ beer export. Brewed in the university town of Tartu, Viru is packaged in a octahedral bottle designed over 100 years ago, and thought to be based on the churches and towers of old Tallinn, capital of Estonia.

Active golden/yellowish beer with a light aroma. The flavour is lightly dry and plain. Overall an average lightly dry premium strength lager.

Brouwerij (407) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - MAY 12, 2013
Bottle. Pours a mostly clear yellow with a finger of white head. Settles quickly with minimal lacing. Smells like sad apple juice, mild, slightly bitter, hint o’ malt. Flavor is mild, bready, malt, grain/cereal. Bland and drinkable. Moderate carbonation, very light body, and watery texture. Not much to say other than a disappointing pale lager.

UPDATED: MAY 4, 2013 Tasted 23/4/2013 330ml bottle. Poured a clear pale golden colour with a thin white bubbly head that laced poorly. Low carbonation - a few small bubbles. Aroma faintly of sour mash malt. Taste of sour mash/malt. Light body. The best part of this taste was the lovely looking octagonal pyramid brown bottle.

Sampled at esbls. Clear light gold. An off white ring. Some grass and pale malts. Not a lot of either. But it is clean.

Bottle @ home.

300ml bottle, unique in design and appearance (for whatever that’s worth). Aroma of pale, grainy, lightly sweet, crackery malt and mildly grassy, herbal hop, courtesy of the Saaz. Sparklingly clear pale golden in color with plenty of visible carbonation feeding a fine, slight head, some lacing present as well. Flavor is lightly malty and sweet, some white toast with honey, turning very lightly bitter and dry, with more grassy, herbal hop flavors showing up towards the clean, almost abrupt finish. Effervescence is light but constant, palate is rather thin and a tad watery with a light body. I drank this after being outside on the first warm, humid night of the year, and consumed it before it had a chance to warm up much, I think that’s the way to go for sure. Fine for what it is.

Pours transparent pale yellow with no head. The nose is straw, corn syrup. Nothing else. The taste is medium sweet an low bitter. The mouthfeel is crisp and clean, the body is light and the finish is medium. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle from the Offie, Leicester. Clean, spraddled, springe wasser. Very pales, liked ashed sheet held up flapping. Smells of course not so much. Easy drinkings. I heard worse.
