Originally sold by Tartu as A. Le Coq Premium Extra. The beer was bought by Brand Independence Ltd in 2006 and renamed Viru. It is contract brewed by Tartu for Brand Independence Ltd.
Ingredients: Water (from one of Europe’s deepest wells); Malted Barley (Lithuanian); Sugar; Saaz Hops; Yeast.
‘Viru’ (pronounced ‘veer-roo’) is becoming a well known Baltic states’ beer export. Brewed in the university town of Tartu, Viru is packaged in a octahedral bottle designed over 100 years ago, and thought to be based on the churches and towers of old Tallinn, capital of Estonia.

Probably one of the coolest bottles i’ve seen. That is the majority of the good things to say about this one. Light pour with little flavor.

300ml bottle courtesy of Erzengel. Thanks. Pours a clear yellow color with a small white head that has poor retention. The aroma is muted and indistinct with cereal and a trace of white fruits. The taste is bland and nearly flavorless with a bit saccharine sweetness. The palate is thin and watery and the carbonation is lively. Finishes short and unmemorable. Overall: One of the most beautiful bottles I have ever seen a beer put into. A bottle I will keep as a trophy. I would love to have more of these for bottling my homebrew into something distinctive.

0.3L bottle. Sour regular lager hop and yeast aroma. Yeasty, sour, some floral flavors. Quite usual estonian mass beer. Little water, little malt, yeast and sugar. Booring.

First of all, compliments on the bottles. The content has a clear, golden color. The head is average with weak retention. The usual malty aroma dominates the nose. Nothing special. The taste is light, sweet and watery. No real bitterness present. Not even in the finish. Too bad. Still drinkable, but no real taste to it.

300ml bottle - One of the most spectacular bottles for one of the most unremarkable beers. No head at all, heavy carbonation and very pale golden colour. Little taste apart and no palate.
