Originally sold by Tartu as A. Le Coq Premium Extra. The beer was bought by Brand Independence Ltd in 2006 and renamed Viru. It is contract brewed by Tartu for Brand Independence Ltd.
Ingredients: Water (from one of Europe’s deepest wells); Malted Barley (Lithuanian); Sugar; Saaz Hops; Yeast.
‘Viru’ (pronounced ‘veer-roo’) is becoming a well known Baltic states’ beer export. Brewed in the university town of Tartu, Viru is packaged in a octahedral bottle designed over 100 years ago, and thought to be based on the churches and towers of old Tallinn, capital of Estonia.

Pours a clear light gold color with white head. Cereal grains on thr nose mainly; follows onto the palate. Finishes clean. Typical pilsner.

330ml bottle. Clean cereal taste, inoffensive, light and refreshing. Probably not worth the money you will pay for it in the UK. Average lager.

300ml bottle, bb 07/2014, merci jaghana. Papery malt nose with sulphur, continued on quite a smooth palate into decent EU lager territory: some hops, slight overcooked pale malt aromatics, yet none too sweet or corn-starchy. I can easily sum up 5 DE and BE macro lagers that are worse than this. "Oled see, mida jood" - according to this fitting Estonian dictum, I am currently an octagon-shaped, drinkable adjunct lager with a few redeemable qualities.

Couleur jaune, petite mousse blanche.

Didn't find this to be anything special, not very carbonated for a lager. Watery and quite bitter. Will not be trying again anyone soon.

Bottle at home, run of the mill pale lager. Unexceptional. Would be just about acceptable as a holiday beer.

BOTTLE 30CL courtesy of bunget. Look: clear straw with a white head. Aroma: a drop of hops, mineral, clean lageresque aroma. Taste: light bitterness, light hoppy, some malt, clean and balanced, some grains in the aftertaste.

300ml bottle. Clear yellow body, small white head with poor retention. Aroma of grassy hops, grains, a touch of metallic tones. Taste of sweet grains, grass, metallic can. Decent.
