Originally sold by Tartu as A. Le Coq Premium Extra. The beer was bought by Brand Independence Ltd in 2006 and renamed Viru. It is contract brewed by Tartu for Brand Independence Ltd.
Ingredients: Water (from one of Europe’s deepest wells); Malted Barley (Lithuanian); Sugar; Saaz Hops; Yeast.
‘Viru’ (pronounced ‘veer-roo’) is becoming a well known Baltic states’ beer export. Brewed in the university town of Tartu, Viru is packaged in a octahedral bottle designed over 100 years ago, and thought to be based on the churches and towers of old Tallinn, capital of Estonia.

330ml bottle. 04-05-2015.
In short: poor maintream lager.
In long: a boring industrial lager, with annoying metalic taste and skunky nose.

Bottle 0.3L. Clear, very pale yellow body with small, fizzy, white head, fully diminishing with virtually no; high density of small bubbles. Light malty and light hoppy (flowers) aroma with notes of sugar. Light-to-moderate sweet and light bitter flavour with an overall watery feeling; some bread in the finish. Light body with watery texture; soft carbonation.

10.1 oz bottle. Poured a clear pale yellow color with a razor thin white top. Taste of sweet pale malt, bready and barley. Low carbonation, thin watery body. Overall, I’m really digging the sweetness of this pale lager. Definitely my go to beer from Estonia (so far)

foyle (374) - Wyoming, USA - MAR 19, 2015
Poured from 300ml bottle into pilsner glass. Appearance: pours a frothy 1" white head that drops quickly with mild lacing left behind. Color is clear pale straw with plenty of streaming carbonation. Aroma: pleasant combination of lightly toasted barley and grassy hops. Mouthfeel: light, crisp, refreshing with a fairly dry finish. Flavor: echoes the aroma: mild mixture of lightly toasted barley and grassy hops with some slight vanilla notes as well. Overall: easy drinking and tasty, what’s not to like?
