COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle: Filtered.
Originally sold by Tartu as A. Le Coq Premium Extra. The beer was bought by Brand Independence Ltd in 2006 and renamed Viru. It is contract brewed by Tartu for Brand Independence Ltd.
Ingredients: Water (from one of Europe’s deepest wells); Malted Barley (Lithuanian); Sugar; Saaz Hops; Yeast.
‘Viru’ (pronounced ‘veer-roo’) is becoming a well known Baltic states’ beer export. Brewed in the university town of Tartu, Viru is packaged in a octahedral bottle designed over 100 years ago, and thought to be based on the churches and towers of old Tallinn, capital of Estonia.

A little lemony and little grassy. Not too bad. Not super though. Standard euro lager fare. Serving: Bottle

Bottle shared with McTapps. Simple one with a bit of malt and some sweetcorn in the aroma. Drinkable, not spectacular - just average - or a bit below.

Actually I feared the worst: A beer, settled in between Coors Light and any Russian Pale Lager, but actually it wasn’t that bad. The beer has got a clear medium golden colour, low steady head and thin to medium body. Nose of fresh hops. Taste of mild aromatic hops, hay and wildfowers. The beer wouldn’t be that bad if the finish would be not that watery, thin and average.

Well, the bottle is cool. The beer is watery, boring, uninspiring. Have I mentioned that the bottle is cool?

Bottle. Pours clear pale golden with airy white head. Faint aroma of yeast and hops. Slightly bitter, hoppy flavour, otherwise very, very watery. Dryish finish. Rich carbonation. Boring as hell.

300ml Bottle (The Cave, Glasgow):
Very little in the way of an aroma, there is some dry, grassy hops and some malts with a touch of sweetness. Pretty basic and slight bit of citrus.
Clear, light yellow, straw colour with not much in the way of a head. There is some fine, white lacing on top with a sort of bubbly look to it.
Sweet malts and dry, grassy hops taste that is very average and bland. There is a touch of citrus with some corn too.
Light bodied, slightly grainy and very dry with medium carbonation. Quite a thin and almost watery feel with touch of bitterness towards the end but not a lot.

Cheap tasting pale lager that is exactly what I had expected going in. The beer is inoffensive and fairly easy to drink although there is touches of grain and some skunk that are slightly off-putting.

Bottled , nice new country rate, clear yellow pour with pretty good grain and fruit flavor, much better than expected for how long this has been here

Bottle says that it contains malted barley, passed me by. Light in colour, thin head that diasppears quickly. Dry taste which is about the only notable characterstic. Easy to drink but doesn’t really stand out from the croud

Pour from a 10.1 oz bottle. Pale golden color, thin white head, mild skunky aroma, dry taste. Meh.

Active golden/yellowish beer with a light aroma. The flavour is lightly dry and plain. Overall an average lightly dry premium strength lager.

Bottle. Pours a mostly clear yellow with a finger of white head. Settles quickly with minimal lacing. Smells like sad apple juice, mild, slightly bitter, hint o’ malt. Flavor is mild, bready, malt, grain/cereal. Bland and drinkable. Moderate carbonation, very light body, and watery texture. Not much to say other than a disappointing pale lager.
