BelgBeerGeek (1263) - Antwerp, BELGIUM - AUG 16, 2012
Bottle from Willems Grobbendonck

Head: large, very foamy, off white, away fast
Colour: cola
Smell: banana, salty peanuts & peanutbutter, malts, bit of alcoholic sweetness, chocolat
Taste: start is somewhat smokey and barnyard, quite irony with notes of overripe bananas, malts and a little ashy, bitter in the end with bubblegum , grassy/hayish aftertaste ... a bit too young i think ...

Frothy white head, dark cloudy brown poor. Sweet smell of malt and caramel flavor is the same. Really nice as a one off but couldn’t have any more than the one bottle

Aroma has malty caramel, brown sugar, slight milk chocolate. Mouthfeel is quite fizzy on the tongue. Taste has a balance of sweet and spicy flavours. Has a toffee finish that’s short lived but turns fairly bitter. Ok Belgium bruin.

Cloudy brown beer. Thick off white head. Light frothy palate. Milk chocolate malt with a little coca cola sourness. Finishes light and soft. Good but in the shadow of the other beers from this brewery.

Brown colour with a decent white head. Smells caramel mostly. Tastes caramel mostly, quite sweet and some herbs. Slightly warming. Okay carbo, medium body. I don’t really like this style.

Brown 33cl bottle, best before 30-Sept-2010, drank during one of my radom beer reviewing evenings in early Oct 2010, some one week after its due date. Poured into my Westmalle chalice the beer appeared sludge like, the colour was coke-a-cola brown and it had the same over carbonated feel to it also. So we had a thick substance which I couldn’t see through, it didn’t get much better to be honest. I poured it slowly and very little if any sediment left the bottle, even so it was still a mess. The smell and taste was of sweet molasses, no hop content or interesting flavours to report, just a sweet (ish) malty beverage. Not sure where in Belgium I bought it, I’ll not be buying another though.

AleTsar (1327) - Edinburgh, SCOTLAND - MAR 16, 2012
Bottle @ The Anderson, Fortrose 160212
Chestnut brown...hazy...thin off white head
Aroma - caramel malt...fruity malt....dark fruits...typical belgian yeast
Taste - caramel and fruity malts....dark fruits....yeasts...some light spicy hops
Palate - medium carb....thin to medium body. Finish as main flavour
Overall - A reasonable dubbel but was outshone by far better beers that evening...worth a re-rate on its own
