The recipe from the first kegged Bruges Beer Fest version has been slightly changed . It has become stronger towards an 8 vol% strength, which should make this IPA more leaning towards the wonderful US Double IPA style. Also, more American Simcoe hops are inserted, which gives a darker beer and more American hop characteristics. An additional bottle refermentation will give more flavours and complexity. It pours nicely dark golden orange, and slightly hazy. The foam is kinda beige with a subtle green shine. Already when nosing I notice the typical American grapefruit alike hop flavours. Fruity, fresh, citric, grapefruit, flowers. Memories of past US visits immediatly revive. Folks, this is a PERFECT US West-Coast double IPA clone! Tasting only confirms this statement. I taste citric Simcoe hops. Tomahawk also, and more US hop varieties. Very pleasant is the balance between sweet and hop bitter. Not too sweet, but in perfect harmony. Note that this hop monster is still about 124 IBU bitter! This is to be called extreme. Tasting also gives a nice carbonation tingling, great body, and satisfying depth. A beer to taste with care. 8 vol% is quite strong, and it really doesn’t feel that strong when drinking. This is because the beer is such a fruity experience all together. Only after finishing the glass for a while, the alcohol is clearly present :) The after taste is a complete hoppy citric sensation. Quite equal when finishing grapefruit. It gives a pleasant fruity citric bitter long lasting lingering.

Amber colour with a fluffy white head. Aroma - Lemon rind, sherbet, slightly earthy. Taste - heavy citrus and quite dry. Earthy note creeps through. Alcohol well hidden. Not getting a great deal. Not bad but I had this a few years ago at Bruges beer festival through a hop cannon and it was the best beer I had all weekend!

Bottle in Belgium. Faintly sweet malt flavors with hints of toast and bread crust. Gentle hop aromas but big hop flavors of citrus. Rind-like bitterness to boot. Decent impy IPA.

Transparent amber, strong white head. Lovely American hop on the nose - pineapple, some citrus, some grassy notes. Bitter with sweet notes. Nicely full-bodied, finishes bitter with a lingering warmth.

Intense hazy amber color with generous white head with medium retention. Good carbonation. Columbus is predominant on the aroma, licuorice, resiny and spicy, also sweet malts and ripe fruits, but also has that Simcoe characteristics, earthy, finy and passion fruits. Medium to high body. Taste is very balanced, with renins, pine, citrus, yeast, and also caramel and toffee. Aftertaste is long and dry, with a decent bitterness kick.

Orange amber with a small off-white head. Lots of nice pine notes on the nose with citrus and an underlying caramel malt. In the mouth there are similar flavours, with more grapefruit, with a good balance between sweet flavours and a decent bitterness. Not very harsh for a IIPA but that’s no bad thing. Heavy-ish palate.

33 cl. bottle @ home, bought @ Hogerdijk, Culemborg. Dark hazy amber with a big off-white head. Malty tropical fruit aroma. Good strong bitterness and more tropical fruits in the taste. Long lasting bitter finish. Nice DIPA

Dark amber body with soapy/foamy off white head and some lacing. Malty aroma, sweet dried fruit. Taste is also on the malty side. Definitely has the typical balance of a double IPA, not super bitter, as you’d expect from Belgian. Still very tasty if not as bitter as some IPAs, though this bottle might not be super fresh. Abv well masked. Nice double ipa.
