4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20 bartlebier (460) - Baden-Württemberg, GERMANY - FEB 4, 2013
UPDATED: MAR 17, 2013 On draught @Brugge BF, 02/02/2013. - Great looking, deep yellow DIPA with fluffy white head and balanced floral/fruity aroma. Outstanding mouthfeel, medium, none of its 8% ABV apparent and full of the taste of its typical US-hop profile, back up by a pleasant, round malt backbone. High drinkability, not a show-off, but an impressive brew that pairs US-style with Belgian balance. //Re-rate bottle 16/03/2013: slightly more "Belgian" qualities pushing through then fierce aroma hop bitters: yeast eyes, some caramel sweetness, cara malts. Somewhat less harmonic than the draught.-1

Bottle from Belmont Station. Pours dark amber with a creamy off-white head. Aroma is floral/citrus. And there are other things there. Like non-red berry? Like pale grape? Full bodied. It’s pale berry, grapey, with a certain rough malt back ground. It’s very hoppy/bitter, but only in a slightly harsh way. It’s very complicated. Quite mouthsmacking. Extraordinarily strong in flavors. Love this stuff.

This is an extremely tasty beer. Simcoe hops give it great pine but also balance. Aroma is strong and full with some alcohol sneaking through. This is a euro-IPA that seems to be a style onto itself, gone is the yeasty/dusty aftertaste that seems to overwhelm others like it. This is a beer that would, I think, in a blind test, go up against any american IPA.

Dark blond. Thick soapy head. Citrusy, sweet, fruity aroma particularly with pink grapefruit and passion fruit coming through. Zesty sweet/sour flavour with plenty of tropical fruit.

Pours amber with a big offwhite creamy head. Aroma is fruity - peach and apple - with hops and som viniousity and som caramel. Flavour is very dry - pine - at first then fruity - again peach and apple - there is a hint of caramel sweetness and viniousity piney hops again in the end. NIce soft mouthfeel and overall a great beer.

Bottle from Hop Duvel in Ghent. It poured a hazy golden-orange liquid with a big creamy head. Very fresh smell with hops and citrus, also some fruits, peaches and tropical fruits. Similar taste but the citrus isn’t as dominant and I get some grapefruit and a strong but pleasent bitterness. A very nice DIPA, still fresh even though I bought it in early october.

head: large, bubbly, off white
colour: amber/orangy
smell: rich in hops, lychee, mango, alcohol, some touch of anis/cumin, sweet and deep !
taste: start is rather smokey , wood chips a very very bitter palate , hints of tobacco , bit wineous , then comes in some alcohol and grassy flavours, peel and grapefruit is the main bitterness taste and it al ends with a pretty dry earthy flavour , texture is oily/dry ...; like this very much !!
