Pours a pitch black beer with a creamy tan head. Smells very roasty and burn. Also coffee and chocolate. I like it. Tasyes chocolate, roasted and coffee. Average carbo, thin body and a sticky texture.

Tap at Brasserie V. Stained-glass deepest burgundy-brown-black. Massive rusty beige head, big and foamy. Big smoke in the aroma, some chocolate. Belgian Porters, the few I’ve had, have been quite nice. This is no exception. Smooth roasty chocolate body, not overcarbonated, very mellow. Sweet but balanced by the smoke and the funky yeast tones. A really enjoyable offering, a cool addition to the Belgian beer world.

UPDATED: OCT 1, 2013 33cl bottle @ home from Willems en Zonen, Grobbendonk BE. Pitch black colour with a big, lasting, slightly chunky brown head. Smells roasty, chocolate, sweet, some liquorice, slightly alcoholic and some iron. The first thing I notice about the taste is some iron, which is a downer for me. I also taste roastness, liquorice, liquorice wood, a slight saltyness and some salmiak. I?m not a big fan of liquorice taste in beers. Medium to full body, large co2 bubbles and slightly dry. It?s a nice beer but not really amazing or anything. After eating some cheese the chocolate in the beer is more noticable, which makes it a better beer for me.

Bought at ABC beers in The Hague (NL). Subtle Smokey aroma and taste. A bit too acid for my taste. OK.

Bottle - black pour with a thick tan head/lacing - strong chocolate and roast hit the nose first, followed by a fairly hearty campfire smokiness - initially smells fairly sweet, but drier, earthy maltiness and an almost savory/salty note counter this - full but soft carbonation in the mouth - sweet chocolate, coffee with cream and sugar - moderate roast, mild acidity, and light smoke late, along with some earthy/mushroomy malt and a slight note od whiskey -some alcohol warmth on the tail end makes me find it slightly less enjoyable - would love to see a 5% rendition.

Een bijna zwart bier met een stevige, mokka schuimkraag. Aroma van geroosterde mouten, as, koffie. Doet wat hartig, bijna zoutig aan. Smaak is droog, bitter. Zacht in de mond, laag tot medium levendig koolzuur, medium body.

330ml bottle. Quasi black colour with average, firm, creamy, fairly lasting, moderately lacing, tan head. Intense smoky aroma, hints of clammy ashes, dark malty background with a touch of blueberries. Taste is dry, minimally tart, dark malty, grassy hoppy, a smoky touch; subtle malt sweetness in the finish with hints of blueberries; relatively lively carbonation.
