3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Black pour with burgundy highlights under a one ginger khaki head that recedes slowly and clings to the glass. Nose is roasted malt with lots of smoke, molasses, chocolate and espresso with hints of dark fruit. Light sweet molasses with a more dominant chocolate bitterness along with smoke and some light ash. Mouth is medium- creamy with soft carbonation and
a quite dry finish.

4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Extremely good deeply malty brew with smoke, molasses and a whiff of soya sauce and funk. Some fruit and roast here, but basically a perfect malt profile is the rock star in this Jack White-a-thon of a beer. Smell it. Smell it good.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours almost entirely black with minimal ruby hues. Large creamy tan head. Nose of lightly smoked chocolate, espresso, pumpernickel and alcohol. Strong whiff of smoke on the first sip. This is about as balanced a smoked beer as I’ve ever tried. Totally not in your face. It’s a bonus. Very peppery carbonation. Again... lots of chocolate and coffee, crusty bread malts, mild alcohol heat, but doesn’t really amp anything up, which is nice. Body overall seems a tad light, but this is a livelier example. Notes of roasted beef broth, charcoal, briny, roasted mushrooms/earthy vegetables. Very clean finish. Very interesting stuff.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
bought@Bierhandlung Freiburg; the most outstanding feature of this beer is that ordinary hazelnuts, almonds and walnuts taste like super fresh ones, when paired with it. Wow. Nose: a lot of roast, dark caramels and cruder herbs like sage. Coffee as well. This porter is quite bubbly, but in a well-done way where the bubbles create a creamy mouthfeel, also as a good counterpart to the near-harsh soy and sage edged roast dominating the taste. Slight alcohol whiffs. Nice long bitter finish.
