Aromas of coffee, ash, carbonised wood, dark chocolate. Rich texture, bitter taste with sweet overtones, coffee and choco again. Not my favorite style but the palate alone lets you know there’s quality there.

Bottled. Pours pitch black with an average, lacing tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, chocolate, coffee, a little smoke and licorice notes. Sweet flavor that ends up dry with a little bitterness. Medium bodied, creamy texture and soft carb. A lovely Porter.

330ml bottle from Vanuxeem. Pours black with tan head. Lots of smoked malts coming through, smooth and very nicely balanced with a little tobacco and the tiniest touch of sweetness. Dry finish. Very enjoyable.

Black in the glass. Smoky aroma similar to Acht Schlenkera but not as assertive. Clean roasted malt flavor with a touch of smoke, cocoa and coffee. Overall, a solid brew...

I can see why this beer is also refered to as "smoked" porter. I think the smokey part of this beer is too much of a good thing. It could have been a lot more subtle if u ask my opinion. The taste however is quite balanced and I suspect there is quite some caftmanship in this beer. Maybe this one is best categorized as "aquired taste" I just finished my first and probably not my last of this interesting beer. If "smokey beer" is your thing, this might be a good one to try.

Excalibur123 (108) - Soria, SPAIN - JUN 15, 2014
