Viven Porter, a SMOKED Porter at 7.0 vol%. This is the first commercially available smoked porter made inside Belgium! A revelation! Notice the care that’s been taken for the image. Black lettered labels and capped with a black crown cork. This beer pours completely black ! The foam is creamy and brown colored. Folks, that’s already a sign of quality ! Now, this is stunning folks ! I already had this beer at the Bruges Beer Fest, and was already surprised by it. This time, some bottle conditioning has even done some more complexity. Nosing immediatly gives roasty and smokey accents, and this in perfect harmony with - again - fruity yeasty flavours. Tasting gives a very thick beer. Wow, what a dense liquid. I taste sweetness, smokey malt flavours, tobacco, fruits (plums-raisins-dried fruit), roasty malts, coffee. Again, an amazing brew this is from Dirk Naudts.

A black body full of brownish yeast flakes, with a frothy tan head that stays around and leaves a good amount of lacing. The aroma is very nice, it smells like smoked meat, chocolate, and some burnt malt. Taste is similar to the aroma, but it’s not quite as smoky. It tastes like smoked malts/meat, bittersweet and milk chocolate, charred malt, and some coffee. There’s also a smoky and burnt/ashy bitter finish. Mouthfeel is on the thin side of medium, it’s smooth and slick with a fair amount of carbonation.

Ink black body. Medium beige head. Strong aroma of toasted malt, then smoke, coffee and chocolate notes. Flavour starts with caramel. The the toasted malt is taking most of the place bringing smoke with it. Light chocolate and coffee notes. Long finish, bitter it´a bitter then smoky. A good smoke aftertaste. Oily body, low carbo, nice mouthfeel. A good porter. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

11.2 Bottle. Poured dark brown, minimal tan head. Aroma of roasted malts, fruit, smoked and some coffee. Taste is similar, some smoke, bacon like notes, coffee and certainly hoppy bitterness. Super interesting beer, quite enjoyable.

Pours a deep black color, topped wit ha solid and dark cream colored head. Mild roasty aroma, nice chocolate notes and some mild warm alcohol notes. Taste starts sweet with some chocolate feel, moderate roasty presence with some quite heavily bitter coffee notes in the finish and some mild presence of it in aftertaste.

På flaska importerad från Belgien. Mörk brun nästan svart färg. Doftar något av kaffe och aningen av något bär. Smakar syrlig karamell med en eftersmak av beskt kaffe.

Pours dark brown with big creamy light brown head. Aroma od roasted barley malt, tabacco, almost like in smokehouse. Similar is taste, firstly sweet with nostes of dark chocolate, little presence of dried fruits, roasted malts and with little smoked/sweet finish. Dry/sweet aftertaste. soft carbonation, medium body , low bitterness. Alcohol is very well hidden.

Black with medium beige head. Aromas of dark chocolote, coffee, dark fruit (somehow i managed to miss the smokiness every body could smell). In mouth, good carbonation, thin texture, long and bitter coffee finish. Not bad but I didn’t think it was special.
