Bottle. Pours opaque black with a medium, frothy tan head, medium retention with excellent lacing. Aroma is smoked meat and sweet wood with roast and chocolate malt, earthy and herbal hops with prunes and figs. Flavor is smoked meat and dark roast malt dominant with light hops and bitterness, sour dark fruity esters and a dry finish. Full body and medium carbonation.

A slow motion gusher. Big head, a touch too fizzy but otherwise a nice body. Tries so very hard to be elite...the smoke and roasted malt are done very very well. There’s just both a slight vegetal aroma and flavor, and it’s a touch too bitter, making it a little rough around the edges, if still quite enjoyable."

Opaque black beer with a thick, foamy beige head. Rich, chocolate malt aroma with a hint of nuttiness.Flavour follows suit and is hearty and rich but with a sharp, tangy fruit edge which only adds to it. You get the hops more as you get through the beer. It really has a bit of everything.

From old notes, tasted with Curtis and some friends in Nashville, probably some time near the summer of 2012, from a bottle. Pours dark brown with an average brown head that leaves thin, spotty lace. The nose is quite smokey with dark chocolate and coffee malt, and just a bit of green hops. The flavor is fairly light for such a dark beer, with the smoke omnipresent throughout the dark chocolate, coffee, and very light hint of green hops. The body is pretty light with lively carbonation and a long bitter coffee and smoked finish.

Bottle: Aroma is roasted malt, coffee, light smoke. Black color, brownish head. Flavor is also malty/roasty with less smoke, chocolate and cacao powder notes. Bitter hops in the end. Light herbal bitter hops in the end.

W aromacie głównie słód karmelowy, żelazistość, lekki chmiel i wędzonka. Warka do 7.01.2015r.

Robust porter and, like their Imperial IPA, launched in 2009; Viven had consisted of rather unobtrusive, cliché beers up till then, but with these two, they suddenly drew a lot of - deserved - attention. Yellowish, thin, moussy head, very dark wine-red colour, almost black, clear. Aroma of smoked bacon, dates, olives, balsamic vinegar, coffee grounds, Worcestershire sauce, stewed beef, charcoal, candied plums. Rich malty taste, caramel, nutty, smoked and roasted bitterness, dry, long and complex, bitter ending further supported by a citrussy, American hoppiness. Wonderful, I wish there were more beers like this available from Belgian brewers.

Ik drink al niet zo graag Porter-bieren en dit was geen uitzondering, ik vond het echt niet lekker

0,33L bottle, BB 08.01.16. Pours dark brown-black with tan head. The head stays. Aroma is roast, fruits, creamy, some smoke. Flavor is bitter & sweet, intense roast, fruits, licorice, smoke, ash. Palate is creamy. Finish is creamy roast bitter with some sweet notes. Overall: very nice brew.
