Bierkrug (1919) - Idar-Oberstein (In Iraq), Rhineland-Palatinate, GERMANY - APR 29, 2013
On tap at the brewpub in Karlsruhe, Germany. Pours a hazy gold-yellow color with a rocky frothy white head. Aroma is a sweet malty paste with some straw at the end. Taste has the small brewhouse taste with nice meelo malts, grains and mix of light fruit. Palate is a wonderful mouthfeel and after taste. Ends tart. Wow.

Cloudy orange body with a small white head. Grassy aroma. Taste starts grassy then becomes suddenly fresh-made bread. Chicory-wise bitter finsh, which becomes malty. Seems strange this bitter/malty alternance, but I really don’t know how to explain it. You should try it yourself. It reminds me somehow of Forschungsbrauerei’s Pilsissimus, but less bitter than it. Medium bodied, lively carbonation

Herb-bitterer Beginn, erfrischend. Die Bitterkeit bleibt, etwas stärkerer Hopfen und auch Bitterkeit, stimmig. Rund, natürlich, knackig bitter. Gut! 10/10/10/11//11

Bottle 5L from the brewery in typical German bottles, a cloudy yellow beer with intense head and heavy carbonation. A quite dry beer with good body, pleasant hops bouquet, high carbonation, refreshing and easy drinkable.

2011-06-21, draught at the brauhaus in Kapellenstraße, 8-4-7-4-16=39
Cloudy blond color (it seems paler than usual), with beautiful creamy head. Wonderful aroma, noble hop, Hallertau. The mouthfeel is dry, there is a quite good crispy malt flavor, but surpassed, covered by a very strong hopping, very green, a bit aggressive but also aromatic. The final is maybe too bitter. Good and pleasing, rough.

2011-05-09, draught at the brauhaus in Ettlingen, 8-4-7-4-15=38
Today this beer has a particular accent on biscuity malt aromas. As often happens at Vogel, the ending bitterness is quite grassy and harsh.

2011-01-17, draught at the brauhaus in Ettlingen, 5.1% ABV, 12% Sw., 7-4-8-4-15=38
Muddy light amber color; compact, generous head. Nice hop aroma, mild, with some apple presence. Good malt flavor, a bit sweeter than other times, therefore better balancing the strong bitterness, that comes with green hops. Powerful final too, and less harsh than in other occasions. A bit uncontrolled as usual, not elegant, but very enjoyable.

2010-09-14, draught at the brauhaus in Ettlingen, 8-4-7-4-15=38
Cloudy deep blond color, creamy head. Very nice hop aroma, very hopflowery, green. Dry mouthfeel, with some crispy, biscuity malt, lean, but hidden by a very bold bitterness, and an aggressive, green hopping. The final is a bit harsh. Very refreshing, a bit rough.

2010-09-01, draught at the brauhaus in Kapellenstraße, 8-3-7-3-15=36
Cloudy blond color; compact head. Very nice hoppy aroma, grassy. Good mouthfeel; powerful hopping, green, very aromatic; maybe the final is a bit harsh.

2010-07-28, draught at the brauhaus in Durlach, 8-4-7-4-15=38
Muddy dark blond color; generous and compact head, persistent. It has a wonderful hop aroma, and with crispy malt. The body is correctly structured, the mouthfeel is dry, there is a good crispy malt flavor (decent intensity), and very strong bitterness; the hop has undoubted aromatic qualities, but I have to admit that at the very end the bitterness is maybe disturbing a bit. Aggressive and very good beer.
